<center></center> --- <center><h2>My Followers. Are They Even Real?!</h2></center> --- It's not a secret that you'll attract more people and increase your visibility if you're active and contribute. Daily or even multiple posts per day is a terrific way to increase your growth and to build your audience... - But, what I will show you today is ... *Weird.* --- <center><h2>This Is NOT A Fluke.</h2></center> Look, I noticed this a few days ago and I've been keeping track of things even more since I noticed this rather odd behaviour. It felt weird, so I had to keep track of it. I had to figure out if it was a fluke or not... And I'm here to say that it was **not** a fluke. This happens **each** time I publish a post. (No wonder the most active Steemians have 10K+ followers?) So instead of talking about this, I'll show you what I mean with the use of Screenshots. I obviously get genuine and real followers from time to time, which I'm obviously thankful for... But, the **majority** of the followers I gain seems to be **non-human** or in some sense, **unreal**. --- <center>If we look at [Steemworld](https://steemworld.org/@hitmeasap), we can see our **followers**.</center> --- <center></center> --- This is the followers I've gained today. Awesome results at first glance. However, if we spend a few seconds to look at things, we can see that they followed at the same time. --- <center></center> --- That's not *weird* or unusual as you will get **most** of your followers while you're active. Which means, that most people will follow you when they see one of your articles. At the time you publish the article you'll have the best chance to gain more followers... - **No rocket science here.** However, when you see more or less the same or identical results **each** time you publish something new, it starts to feel *weird*. --- <center></center> --- <center></center> --- <center></center> --- <center></center> --- I get between 8 and **12** new followers **each** time I publish a new article. As soon as I publish something, my follower amount increase rapidly. Just look at the time. When I publish and when I get the followers. - Weird? I don't care how much Steemit have grown and how many active users we have on Steemit... Numbers like these **are** weird to me. **Each** time I publish something new, I get **~10** new followers... That's odd. --- One of the reasons I think it's weird is because **none** of the followers upvote my content. They just follow my account. No matter **what** I publish, so it's **not** due to the subject or the content. Four (4) randomly picked users from each day. I won't go as far to say that these are the **same** user. I will not say that all of them are bots or sock-puppet accounts. But, as you can see. Out of **12** randomly selected users **one** of them have some profile information with a profile picture. **Most** of them have **identical** amount of Steem Power and **all** of them are fairly new accounts. I don't know about you, but to me, this is **strange**. It looks weird and suspicious. It even reminds me of these low quality instagram, twitter and/or facebook followers you can buy for as low as $1 on various marketplaces... **And**, more importantly.. **None** of them "liked" (upvoted) my content. They followed me but none of them spent that extra second to upvote and none of them wrote a comment... --- <center><h2>Quality Or Quantity?</h2></center> For the sake of this article I will **edit** this and include a screenshots of the new followers I get when I've published this. **Edit**: 2 minutes after I published, I had new followers. Yup, it looks like it... I haven't posted anything for a few months and I was still getting new followers. Also, the same thing you said, none of my followers are upvoting the content... I mean, what's the use of all those "followers" when they aren't really following you. It's quite sad to be honest.

Yeah, I mean, I know that I get new followers due to my older publications, and those are real followers... But this looks ridiculous. I'd rather have 10 real, active followers than 10,0000 non-active bot-ish followers. Thank you for your comment.

Ah! I saw some postings for the last couple of days with similar topic as yours. I did not really pay attention to my follower- numbers. I did realize however that i got almost 200 new ones within a week, but since I am running a certain tag to help planktons by giving free upvotes to their creative postings, I thought it was due to that. But after reading yours, I checked on steemworld and found many folowed me at the exact same time. Wowzer. Mind blowing π€£ But yeah, not surprising, I guess. Took me almost a year long to get to 1000 followers, then only 7 days to get 200 new ones, that is laughable then π€£

Many Steemonians noticed this. I send 6 of those followers a message, but so far no answer. All the 6 profiles I checked were posting. I think all of the posted movies. It looked a bit weird, like a bit created the posts...? Also because I didn't get any reaction. Most of the time all the accounts are created at the same time. And have close to the same number of followers. Why don't we get like 100 followers at once? It looks like this is well organized?

> Why don't we get like 100 followers at once? It looks like this is well organized? Seems like it's organized, yeah. My first thought was that Steemit themselves are doing this to make it look like this platform is more active than it is in reality... But they are failing if that's the case.

Would be really weird if they did this. However it would not be the biggest scam. Recent investigation might even show that the real level of engagement is very low. Measured in average number of comments per post. This number could be below 1 if you exclude bots and crap comments. Back to the topic of your post , I still don't get it π€

I have over 2000 followers and rarely get more than 5 upvotes for most of my posts so although I'm not sure if yours are real, I'm pretty sure my followers aren't. Hahaha... Oh well, back when we know how many eyeballs were actually on posts, I often get maybe a pair or maybe a couple eyeballs. Now that the eyeballs are gone, I'm not even sure if some of my posts actually got anything more than my eyeballs on them.

Well, both the amount of eyeballs and followers are easy to manipulate, so I don't really care about the quantity in that sense. It doesn't matter if I have 10K followers if I get 5 upvotes, so quantity doesn't matter much. However, this is not about the amount of followers I have or the support I get from them.. This is about the followers I gain for each new article I publish. It looks like I get about ~10 new followers for each article I publish, no matter when I publish it and no matter the subject... - And that can't be real. So the question is, **why?** I can't come up with any good answers for **why** this happens... It's lame and it looks awful. At this rate, I'll have 10,000 followers in just a few months, and I can't see the reason to have 10,000 followers when ~100 of them are active and real.

I have noticed the same for few weeks, not that I look at my followers numbers but because I use busy.com to publish and there are notifications each time someone follows you, and when I post (with this account or when my human @barbara-orenya does post also), well we get at least ten followers in the few following seconds, no profile pics and so on...Now we do not care of that, we " know" they are not real followers, meaning they will never read, upvote or comment, we just don't care or worry about that, but you are right : *it's weird* ;-)

Well, I wouldn't care **that** much about it if it wasn't so extremely obvious that something's going on. I would love to get ~10 new followers per day, in case they were real. That would at least give me a **chance** to get upvotes at **some** point. These followers seems just useless and it gives everyone misleading information regarding the amount of followers one have.

you are totally right about the misleading information it sends... For my part, I never took the amount of followers as something significant, except when I see someone is following thousands of people : it gives me some information about the person indeed ... ;-) who can really follow hundreds of people , seriously ..? We struggle to keep in touch with our few hundreds, and we mostly want to have a safe and joyful feed by following only people with same interests or such... Most of these followers only open one account that may have many followers. Next they click follow, without first seeing the profile that followed. And this is common for those new to the steemit platform. Maybe they still catch this platform similar to other platforms like IG or other. I think that is the reality of this.

Might be true. People who have tons of followers will often get more followers just for the sake of being somewhat famous. However, this is something completely different. To get ~10 new followers after **each** article you publish. That's just weird and suspicious.

It could be so. Because now a lot of circulating fake accounts, meaning the account that sparked in the comments. And need anti-hacker account that drain SBD with various tricks. * Phishing * has been very rampant also so far, some of my friends here also have become victims. I also dare not argue that the new accounts are one of them. Who knows ??

I too experienced a quantum jump from 487 to 516 in less than 2 hours. I do not remember if or when it happened to me before. I thought about blogging about it, but commenting on the same subject on a more visible thread, may be better. edit: 6 days since then, and my followers count rose to 604.
