I've been asking myself lately if there are any genres that I've been neglecting in my #songoftheday postings and realized for the most part, I don't think I've picked any Breakbeat tracks so far. I intend of fixing this today with another song that holds a big spot in my heart, Haying by FC Kahuna. 

Upon first listen, you might be asking yourself why this song sounds so familiar. The original of the song was featured in several TV shows and Movies during its heyday, most notably a particularly memorable scene of the film Layer Cake. FC Kahuna had a short but memorable run of songs cumulating in the release of their only album Machine Says Yes in 2002. This seems to be most people's favorite song by them, though the excellent Nothing Is Wrong takes that honor for me. I recommend checking it out. Ils, who was coming fresh off of a fantastic release called Next Level which was picked up for a phone advertisement in Britain, takes this into atmospheric breakbeat territory, most likely as an exchange for FC Kahuna remixing his track No Soul. Most importantly, it maintains the amazing and memorable vocal in full which makes it a good version to take to the dancefloor. 

The reason I have a soft spot for this though is because this was the first track I ever played my first time DJing in public way back in 2004 at an open decks night in Jacksonville FL. I can still remember how nervous I was even though there must have only been 10 or so people there and when I pulled the mix off I got that first taste of doing what I love. Many memories wrapped into this one.
