I actually just finished a poem, from which the above line was taken from. In that poem, I tried to express my frustration at the way things have been going lately.

Right now, there is a song playing through the earphones in my ears. It is a song by Passenger titled Whispers. In that song, he talks about a depression that plagues the character in the song. The character is one who is struggling to find meaning and purpose in life. He has good intentions despite the fact that he’s always messing things up.

I feel like that sometimes. I feel like I’m being dealt the wrong cards; that regardless of what I do, I always end up playing the wrong moves. A friend of mine once said he needed to have a talk with the angel in charge of assigning parents to children. He believes there was some malicious intent involved.

We often have a good laugh over that but sometimes I wonder if we have a choice. I mean, we don’t get to choose our country of birth, our parents, our gender, our skin colour…. the list goes on and on. When you stop to think about it, it seems some of life’s major decisions were made for us. We are only trying to utilize the advantages we have or are trying to take the best out of a bad situation.

## Repeat After Me “We Have Choices!!!!!”
I like to think we have choices; that we can determine our lives, that we have influence. I believe this for two reasons.

1 It is an empowering thought. The thought that one is a mere product of chance is a depressing thought. The thought of choice is a liberating thought. It gives you the power t rise over your cir=circumstances, to seek out the best in life, to prevent depression from stealing the sunshine in your heart.

2 It is true. I believe we all have a choice. It might not seem like it, but we can influence, so some degree, the things around us. Most of all, we can choose how we react to life. The difference between the truly happy people and those who are not lie in their decision. And for me, I choose to be happy.

I choose to be happy and grateful, to seek out the sunshine from beyond the dark clouds and I invite you to make that decision.
