I had heard so much talk about this movie that it was inevitable I was going to see if Casey Affleck was going to beat Ryan Gosling of La La Land in the Oscars. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/content/dam/films/2016/11/23/JS113642831_Roadside-Attractions-and-Amazon-Studios-large_trans_NvBQzQNjv4BqgsaO8O78rhmZrDxTlQBjdGtT0gK_6EfZT336f62EI5U.jpg Now.. its a strange one because I kept asking myself did I actually enjoy this film. Apart from being over long by at least 30 minutes and in times dreadfully slow, did I enjoy it. Well I did in different ways because the story is different to most films for thorough entertainment. It is a very sad story , well acted but Casy affleck never smiles once, but then again when you really get into the movie you can understand why. Basically, he finds it hard to cope with life after losing his daughters in a fire in which he can never come to terms with. The loss of his wife to someone else and then he finds he has lost his brother. Not the best story line to be entertained but actually a gripping face at reality. He is then told that he will be his brothers sons guardian, which he does not want as he can't even look after himself never mind bring up a teenager. Patrick played by Lucas hedges is a sixteen year old teenager and an ice hockey player, who has a few girlfriends and plays in a band. The film shows how his new step father adapts or does not adapt to his new role He doesn't have a well paid job and is just a handyman with very little or no manners when dealing with customers. He clearly does not like people and when drunk picks fights just for the hell of of it. There is some great photography on his brothers boat and the young lad Patrick played by Lucas Hedges really gives a stunning performance for a person so young. Overall the film is good , well acted but makes you come away thinking ...Did I miss something. Certainly not a movie for popcorn as so intense. images courtesy of the telegraph
