There are many problems that people have to deal with on a daily basis, especially from the psychological point of view, since there are countless disorders and distortions that a person could suffer without even knowing it, not to mention those they are aware of. In fact, psychological conditions are so powerful that even if the person who suffers from them is aware of them, it does not ensure that they are prepared to confront them.

If we specify a little more, many of the most common non-pathological psychological problems often appear for no reason at all as a result of being triggered by factors that are extremely difficult to control. That is why in today's post I would like to touch one of the most disturbing psychological problems that can be easily and quickly triggered and spread through people's minds. I am referring to anxiety as a habitual although not very welcome acquaintance of most of us.

Anxiety is, as I have wanted to briefly highlight in the previous paragraphs, a psychological problem that often arises in different scenarios and that in fact also appears as a consequence of countless elements that are not always psychological. Well, yes friends, anxiety doesn't always arise from some psychological factor, and in fact, anxiety can also appear from biological causes that alter hormone levels or generate problems in the body's neuro-receptors.

The complicated thing about anxiety is that even though we can determine which factors can intervene to make it happen, it is difficult to identify specific elements, or rather the concrete scenarios where anxiety appears, since there are many and sometimes impossible to identify; hence the anxiety sometimes appears as if by magic, without any apparent cause.

# Anxiety, not fear
#
> ...It is the subjectively unpleasant feelings of dread over anticipated events
 [Wikipedia](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anxiety)
#
<div class="pull-right"><center><img src="https://c1.staticflickr.com/2/1470/25022496121_f85f93077c_b.jpg" /><br/><em><a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/braerik/25022496121">Flickr</a></em></div> <br/><em><a href="https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/2.0/">CC BY SA 2.0</a></em></center></div>

Even though the clearest definition of anxiety is that this is an emotion originated as a consequence of some factors that generate a certain sense of danger in us, it is not always correct, since many times anxiety can be triggered by other factors totally random and without any kind of relationship, in fact understanding completely the factors that activate anxiety in people is so complicated that it is often confused instead of being associated with other feelings such as fear.

> Anxiety is not the same as fear, which is a response to a real or perceived immediate threat, whereas anxiety is the expectation of future threat.
 [Wikipedia](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anxiety)

If we focus on the psychological realm that could trigger anxiety, we would speak of a response to a possible threat, regardless of whether it is real or not, while fear is directly and explicitly related to a real threat or danger. However, the feeling of anxiety is so powerful that it can by itself trigger fear and as a consequence can lead to other distortions that affect people's behavior, such as causing an uncontrollable activity that leads to the sufferer to react illogically to any kind of situation.

In short, although they are extremely similar and even though one may be the product of the other, they are totally different sensations where each one has a different origin and way of developing.

> Anxiety is related to the specific behaviors of fight-or-flight responses, defensive behavior or escape. It occurs in situations only perceived as uncontrollable or unavoidable, but not really so.
 [Wikipedia](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anxiety)

# Anxiety, not stress
#
Another of the difficult points to identify when talking about anxiety is its link with stress, since it is often pointed out that anxiety can be caused as an unconscious response to being saturated with things, but no, it is not so and in some ways stress may be powerful enough to activate the necessary responses that trigger anxiety, but in most cases it is not so, although for many people it is usual and typical to call anxiety to any type of response to stress each one generates a different reaction. This fact has become extremely common because society has gradually adopted the position of calling anything anxiety.
#
<div class="pull-left"><center><img src="https://cdn.pixabay.com/photo/2017/10/30/13/36/stress-2902537_960_720.jpg" /><br/><em><a href="https://pixabay.com/en/stress-anxiety-depression-unhappy-2902537/">Pixabay</a></em></div> <br/><em><a href="URL LICENCIA">Public Domain</a></em></center></div>

If we seek to establish a delimitation of each one, stress is a response to the over-saturation we experience in many of the predominant areas of our daily lives, while anxiety, as I mentioned earlier, is the basic and primary response to the sense of danger.

It is currently extremely difficult to separate these three responses **(stress, fear and anxiety**) due to the very close relationship between them, and also because each one activates very similar cognitive processes and reactions. In any case, what these three problems that we have to deal with on a daily basis have in common is that they all significantly change our behavior.
#
* Stress makes us overload our brains to the point where we lose control over our decision making.

* Fear is a necessary response to real and latent danger, and as I said in one of my previous posts helps us to survive and to stay alert to any kind of situation.

* Finally, anxiety is a primary reaction that arises when we feel cornered or in danger, even if it is not real; and that also makes us act irrationally and hyperactive.
#
<hr>

# There really is no reason?
#
Having made it clear how anxiety is different from stress and fear, why don't we continue to investigate why it is so common for it to be triggered without any apparent cause?

It is so usual that anxiety occurs so frequently that even today there are countless reasons why it could be activated, in fact, if we remember what I told you at the beginning, anxiety is not only linked to psychological factors but also to physical and biological ones. In fact, I would dare to say that feeling anxiety is one of the most common and subconscious responses that exist and that from it other sensations are triggered, which is why it is often confused with other reactions.

In short, it's not that anxiety is generated without any reason, it's that we still can't understand all the reasons that can activate it and make it proliferate in our minds, making us simply lose the logical sense of acting.

Anxiety is such a powerful and intriguing phenomenon that even the slightest scenario or even memory could make it appear, it only takes a small alteration to change the emotional balance of our mind so that we can experience some anxiety.

In fact, I particularly feel a vast amount of anxiety before doing something, it is not always linked to the fear of doing something but to the emotion or excitement of wanting to do it, but in most cases yes, anxiety is mainly related to fearing to do something or that something will happen and hence the psychological concept I suppose.
#
<hr>

# Conclusion
#
As you have been able to see if you have read the post in detail (I hope so) it is almost impossible to determine specific factors or elements that lead to anxiety in people, because there are countless possible causes and hence this arises even in scenarios where we seem to be in total control of ourselves. If I had to generalize or give a concrete cause for the anxiety to occur, I would say that it originates whenever a factor is generated that alters the natural perception of our brain on a psychic and somatic level.

That is why for me it is one of the main reactions to any kind of situation that disturbs us, and from which we cannot adapt so quickly. That's why we all usually succumb to anxiety because we don't have the adaptive processes in place to overcome it or rather to minimize it to the point that it can't affect us.

Anxiety is definitely related to fear as fear makes us feel more stressed and paves way for anxiety as we start thinking something something.

Nice one.
