<h3><em>He tamed the Russian peasants to fragrant soap and proved to the upper class of the Russian Empire that good spirits can be not only French. He was a happy man, and for this he had at least two reasons - his beloved wife and a favorite thing.</em></h3>
<h3><em>Henri Brocard was born in the summer of 1836 in Paris in the family of a talented chemist and perfumer Atanas Brocard. His father owned a small perfume shop on the Champs Elysées. In France, the affairs of Brocard Sr. went with varying success and once he decided to move to America, where he opens a small perfume factory in Philadelphia. Business in America did not work and after a few years Atanas Brokar with his youngest son Henri returned to Paris.</em></h3>

<h3><em>Henri Brocard, who had already studied the intricacies of the perfume business, understood that he would not be able to make a fast career in France, and he did not want to build business in the conditions of severe competition for decades, and in 1861 he decided to go to a distant and completely unfamiliar Russia. Brokar settled in Moscow and quickly found a job as a technologist at the perfume factory of merchant Konstantin Gik. Henry, who in Russia began to be called Henry Afanasievich worked with Gik for about 3 years, not forgetting for a minute about his mosque - the opening of his own business.</em></h3>
<p><em>Он приручил русских мужиков к душистому мылу и доказал высшему сословию Российской империи, что хорошие духи могут быть не только французскими. Он был счастливым человеком, и на это у него было как минимум две причины - любимая жена и любимое дело.</em></p>
<p><em>Анри Брокар родился летом 1836 года в Париже в семье талантливого химика и парфюмера Атанаса Брокара. Его отец владел небольшой парфюмерной лавкой на Елисейских полях. Во Франции дела Брокара старшего шли с переменным успехом и однажды он решился на переезд в Америку, где открывает в Филадельфии небольшую парфюмерную фабрику. Бизнес в Америке не заладился и через несколько лет Атанас Брокар с младшим сыном Анри возвращается в Париж.</em></p>
<p><em>Анри Брокар уже изучивший тонкости парфюмерного дела понимал, что во Франции сделать стремительную карьеру ему не удастся, а десятилетиями выстраивать бизнес в условиях жесточайшей конкуренции он не хотел и в 1861 году он принимает решение отправиться в далекую и совсем незнакомую ему Россию. Брокар обосновался в Москве и быстро нашел работу технолога на парфюмерной фабрике купца Константина Гика. Анри, которого в России стали называть Генрихом Афанасиевичем проработал у Гика около 3 лет ни на минуту не забывая о своей мечет - открытии собственного дела.</em></p>

To the question of marriage, he, like all Frenchmen, approached pragmatically, his future spouse must know languages, be business, economic, intelligent and sociable. After graduating from the Moscow board of noble maidens with the best grades in mathematics and accounting, Charlotte possessed all these qualities. Henry, deciding that Charlotte would be his wife, did not take into account the small detail - she was fascinated by the Italian singer, and the Frenchman did not pay any attention to the enamored Frenchman.</em></h3>
<h3><em>Somehow at the invited party in the house of Rava this very singer should sing. Henry gave Charlotte a bouquet of waxy violets that smelled like fresh flowers, she was delighted. The souvenir was put on the piano, and the floral scent filled the living room. When the Italian sang, he could not take any high notes. Sly Brokar knew that the smell of violets badly affects the vocal cords and elegantly got rid of the opponent.</em></h3>
<p><em>Жить европейцу без знания языка в Москве было сложно, но Генриха спасали друзья-соотечественники, с которыми он познакомился бывая в доме бельгийца Томаса Равэ, владельца магазина хирургического инструмента. Там ему и приглянулась дочь хозяина дома. Молодая, красивая девушка по имени Шарлотта. Генрих уже и до знакомства с ней уже задумывался о женитьбе, а после понял, что его время пришло. К вопросу брака он, как и все французы подходил прагматично, его будущая супруга должна знать языки, быть деловой, хозяйственной, умной и общительной. Закончив Московский пансион благородных девиц с лучшими оценками по математике и бухгалтерскому учету, Шарлотта обладала всеми этими качествами. Генрих решив, что Шарлотта будет его женой, не учел маленькую деталь - она была увлечена итальянским певцом, а на влюбленного француза не обращала никакого внимания.</em></p>
<p><em>Как-то на званом вечере в доме Равэ должен был петь этот самый певец. Генрих подарил Шарлотте букет восковых фиалок, которые пахли как живые цветы, она была в восторге. Сувенир поставили на рояль, и цветочный аромат наполнил гостиную. Когда итальянец запел, он не смог взять ни одной высокой ноты. Хитрый Брокар знал, что запах фиалок плохо влияет на голосовые связки и элегантно избавился от соперника.</em></p>

The wedding took place according to the Catholic custom, despite the fact that in Russia the conversion to Orthodoxy promised numerous benefits, Henry and Charlotte did not change their faith. Their alliance was very happy, and the couple had three children - the daughter of Eugene and two sons, Alexander and Aemilius.</em></h3>
