Lol, I knew that a long comment will follow :D

People say, one shouldn't play with bees 'cause they sting. I should have listened :D

> for man in his innermost soul is merely evil; woman, however, is mean.

I liked this line the most. It made me laugh out loud :) All my life I thought I am not a mean person. I even thought that it would be much easier for me if I was a little meaner for a change :D However, I was wrong. Nietzche has figured me out a century ago :)

> I think women should get together and solve their issues (they're very often very anti-feminist themselves) and only then they should get around to consciousness-raising the men!

Oh, have you guys (meaning men) had this men-issues meeting already? I must have missed it :D

Jokes aside. Nietzsche and Sheupenhaouer obviously left a rich heritage to the world. However, whenever human beings are discussed there should be no place for generalizations and stereotyping. I find it pointless to talk about **all** the women and **all** the men in the world from **all centuries** because I will always be wrong. I don't identify with Nietzche's or Schopenhauer's women, neither do I identify with many women from the 21st century. I am pretty sure you don't identify with the slave owners either, nor you identify with your neighbor (for example) and stand by his beliefs just because he happens to be a man.

I don't call myself a feminist because I am not very sure what it means anymore. People have misused and abused the word for so long that I find it to be just a hollow label now.

> The most famous line is the last one, about the whip. I can't recount how many times older women have given me the same advice, and younger women, who will refute it with their words, verify it with their actions.

It is funny that I have been given the same advice regarding men. And I have had the same experience with men you had with women :D Lol. Some men love to be whipped, others love to whip. However, I am pretty sure that there are many men and women out there who exclude whipping from their repertoire :D

As far as honor is concerned, yeah, there must have been some kind of honor (or why not exclusive men's honor) in Nietzche's world but I doubt that it still exists in our capitalistic - opportunistic 21st century. Which I find to be very sad, actually. But what would a woman know about honor, right, Nietzsche? Or everything is possible with women?

But what are we doing now? Are we discussing Nietzsche and Schopenhauer in 19th-century or we discuss them from the 21st-century perspective?

It's been great fun and pleasure talking to you, Alexander! We should carry it on Discord! :)

> for man in his innermost soul is merely evil; woman, however, is mean.

A better translation of this part would be maybe the precisely opposite! Something like "Man in his essence is merely evil-toward/evil-ward; woman, however, is evil".

I think the point is something like Shakespeare's 'hell hath no fury like a woman scorned'. In the sense that a man will still remain human, even at his worst, but a woman might damn the whole universe if it were up to her.

That ultimately probably goes back to ancient Greek traditions that saw woman as incapable of controlling her emotions. It's interesting cos actually in some of the research from my first sex differences articles, it seems that it's men who are incapable of controlling their emotions, whereas women are less extreme and far more practical, worldly creatures!

Anyway, I'm not supporting any view, but as the Shakespeare quote shows, you'd probably have to refrain from reading almost any literature if you stop reading misogynistic literature! I detect many man-hating comments and views in women's lit too. I think it's just in the nature of being human that we don't self-reflect as much as we blame. I think both men and women see the other sex as largely a sex object that's meant to satisfy them (not just in sex, but all areas). Which is why it's important to try and understand each other (see my broad definition of feminism below).

> I don't call myself a feminist because I am not very sure what it means anymore. People have misused and abused the word for so long that I find it to be just a hollow label now.

I do call myself a feminist, cos I think all things considered it serves us best to promote the label rather than go back perhaps to a time when it was vilified. But I do agree we're in a moment right now where each interest group tries to take over the word for themselves. I think mostly cos the most vocal and extreme always get the limelight.

To me, at the broadest, being a feminist simply means that you believe that gender issues are worth talking and thinking about.

> It is funny that I have been given the same advice regarding men. And I have had the same experience with men you had with women :D Lol. Some men love to be whipped, others love to whip. I'm no longer sure whether we're talking about metaphorical or literal whipping :D

But I see what you mean, women who "rule their house with an iron fist" (to quote from Nick Cave's [Jack the ripper](https://youtu.be/y3JEFc_X3ls) song) are quite successful in their marriages!

Discord eats away time like a black hole!

I know we need to put this thread to rest, but it's hard for me not to reply 😅 Did you know men are proven to talk more than women?!

> In the sense that a man will still remain human, even at his worst, but a woman might damn the whole universe if it were up to her.

Lol, this is even worse! :D

> you'd probably have to refrain from reading almost any literature if you stop reading misogynistic literature!

Lol! :D I am pretty sure that many authors had very poor **women-dating-skills** :D I guess it's like the Aesop's fable about the Fox and the Grapes. Lol

> I detect many man-hating comments and views in women's lit too.

Yes, I agree with you. I said that I am not going to generalize but I am tempted to say that it seems that women are really men-hating these days. As if it takes a lot of men-hate to be a true feminist! That's one example of how the concept "feminism" is misused. Furthermore, our society is much more cruel to feminine men that it is toward masculine women. And the "feminists" are the first to throw the stone. (Oh, Gosh, we are back to the stone throwing. Our dialog has made a loop. Lol)

> I think all things considered it serves us best to promote the label rather than go back perhaps to a time when it was vilified.

I guess you are right about that.

> I'm no longer sure whether we're talking about metaphorical or literal whipping :D

Oh, God, did you mean it metaphorically? Wll, this is embarrassing!

Lol. I am joking :D I haven't whipped anyone in my entire life. For now :D:D:D

> But I see what you mean, women who "rule their house with an iron fist" (to quote from Nick Cave's Jack the ripper song) are quite successful in their marriages!

Well, I was referring to these women but I don't think they are successful in their marriages. Is a marriage only about power?

(Oh, Gosh, Nick Caves is singing so out of tune? Is it on purpose?)

> Discord eats away time like a black hole!

Yes, you are quite right about that! :D I was just worried if I am intruding with my endless comments here :D

> Did you know men are proven to talk more than women?!

I didn't! But it explains a lot! 😅

> Lol! :D I am pretty sure that many authors had very poor women-dating-skills :D I guess it's like the Aesop's fable about the Fox and the Grapes. Lol

No, women have poor man-picking skills :D

This is actually intriguing, and I have this whole argument about what kind of men women *really* like, and it's based on what kind of men women did pick in the past.

For example, we know for a fact women don't like muscular men. A typical male chimp is at least 4 times stronger than a man. A gorilla ... forget about it. So it was very well open to human women to sleep with strong men until we became like our cousins. Wait, let me rephrase that: women could have avoided choosing weaker men over stronger men in the past, but they didn't, which is why we became weaker than our cousins.

And it doesn't matter what women say in polls or how much they drool over Thor's body or whatever. I have this expression (that some people don't like, for some reason) that 'women voted with their pussies'. It doesn't matter what their mouth says. It's quite clear that pound for pound we are among the physically weakest animals there are, and it would be silly to think sexual selection didn't play a role in that. And even if it didn't, women who tended to like what they had in front of them instead of something non-existent (like a strong human male) would tend to fare better genetically.

Our foremost characteristic as a species is our smarts. It's quite inexplicable how we can do math, and why so many people are so talented, and drawn to, music.

My belief is that women tended to fall for the musicians and the storytellers who could seduce you around a campfire.

So, yeah, women pick 'authors', I think! But modern culture has changed us dramatically. For example, some people, women included, don't want to have kids! (I know, it's hard to believe.) Any such tendency against childbearing would have been eliminated billions of years ago. And I believe it has. The current trend is clearly artificial, a desire eliminated by natural selection and resurrected as a zombie by current culture.

> Oh, Gosh, Nick Caves is singing so out of tune? Is it on purpose?

Most probably. He's portraying a character that has a few screws loose. Plus 'The Birthday Party' used to be a punk group, before they became 'Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds'.

> our society is much more cruel to feminine men that it is toward masculine women

I don't know. The 'dandy' was quite a popular creature once. Maybe it's mostly a cultural matter again. England and France used to adore all sorts of feminine-like men. Even recently we had people like David Bowie, and even now some would date Tom Hiddleston. So dunno.

> I haven't whipped anyone in my entire life.

Not even self-whipping? Not a Catholic, then.
