### Accommodation and art

<div class="pull-left">

*Ich erreichte das Hotel NYX schließlich eine Stunde vor Mitternacht, nach insgesamt 14 Stunden Reisezeit. Leicht übermüdet, schenkte ich der für mich gebuchten Unterkunft keine große Aufmerksamkeit und bin froh endlich ins Bett zu kommen, schließlich standen am nächsten Tag bereits morgens Termine an. Der Zeitunterschied ist lediglich eine Stunde, aber ich habe noch nie zu den Frühaufstehern gehört und kämpfe gerne um jede Minute.

<div class="pull-right">

I finally reached the Hotel NYX one hour before midnight, after a total of 14 hours travel time. A little bit overtired, I didn't pay much attention to the accommodation, which was booked for me and I’m happy to go to bed, since several appointments were already scheduled for the next morning. The time difference is only one hour, but I never belonged to the early risers and like to fight for every minute of sleep.
The next day, however, I quickly realize that the hotel has quite a lot of surprises.
NYX follows the approach of supporting artists all over the world and so it's not just a classical business hotel, you can find art on almost every wall and they are as different as their artists. From Street Art to paintings, photography, organic art, sculptures, there is something for every taste. During my time here I went on a discovery tour and found some works, but for sure not all of them.

*Ansonsten ist die vornehmliche Farbe Schwarz, passend zum Motto, denn **Nyx**, wie ich hier lernte, ist die griechische Göttin der Nacht, bzw. in der griechischen Mythologie die Verkörperung dieser, sie bringt selbst Zeus zum Fürchten heißt es.*

<div class="pull-right">

On the other hand, the primary color is black, matching the motto, since **Nyx**, as I’ve learned here, is the Greek goddess of the night, or in Greek mythology the embodiment of it, she was even able to scare Zeus..

### Visiting a Kibbutz

<div class="pull-left">

*Kibbuzim sind etwas sehr Israel-spezifisches. Obwohl heute weniger als 2 % der Bevölkerung in einem Kibbuz leben, gehören diese zum Land und seiner Geschichte.

</div>

<div class="pull-right">

Kibbuzim are something very Israel-specific. Although today less than 2% of the population live in a kibbutz, they belong to the country and its history.
A kibbutz is a socialist community in which there is no private property. Everyone gets what he needs from the community and contributes his share. While in the past agriculture dominated, today many people rely on industry and so often companies are part of a kibbutz and the employees live with their families in the immediate neighbourhood.

My first appointment leads me to such a kibbutz, founded in 1936, one of the oldest kibbutzim and thus older than the state of Israel itself.
Access is only granted to residents and visitors, so we first have to pass a barrier to get to the area. The older gentleman at the entrance asks us three times where we want to go, but finally lets us pass without any further problems. Finally a last barrier separates us from the company premises, not a high security facility, but the residents obviously would like to keep uninvited guests and especially their cars outside.
Anyhow after our appointment I took the opportunity to have a look at the surroundings and must admit that I’m surprised by the contrast, simple houses with beautiful parks, cafés on one side, old warehouses on the other and no fences at all.

</div>

<div class="pull-right">

I notice the pomegranate trees, which already bear fruit, but they will surely take another week or two until they are fully ripe.
My companion explains to me that these are needed for the upcoming Jewish New Year.
The Jewish New Year **Rosh ha-Schana** is celebrated in September or early October, the date varies every year, since the Jewish calendar only knows months with either 29 and 30 days and compensates these every few years with a leap month.
The festival lasts 2 days and the pomegranate is a typical dish and among other, mostly sweet dishes, such as honey cake or grapes, part of the tradition.

### Herzliya

<div class="pull-left">

*Es warten noch ein paar weitere Termine auf mich, doch schließlich ist Feierabend und ich nutze die Gelegenheit mir die Hotelumgebung etwas näher anzusehen. Mein Hotel befindet sich nicht in Tel Aviv selbst sondern in einer Nachbarstadt, etwa 15km vom Stadtkern entfernt. Herzlia ist eine der reichsten Stadt im Umkreis und direkt an der Küste gelegen, viele Unternehmer und Botschaften sind hier ansässig. Die Stadt hat etwas weniger als 100.000 Einwohner und zahlreiche Hotels, da sie sich auch bei Touristen höchster Beliebtheit erfreut.

</div>

<div class="pull-right">

There are still a few more dates waiting for me, but finally work is finished and I take the opportunity to take a closer look at the hotel surroundings.
My hotel is not located in Tel Aviv itself but in a neighbouring town, about 15 km away from the city centre. Herzliya is one of the richest cities in the surrounding area and is located directly at the coast, many entrepreneurs and embassies are located here. The city has a little less than 100,000 inhabitants and numerous hotels, as it is also a very popular tourists town.
The marina is certainly one of the highlights, but also the numerous cafes and bars invite to stay. Even many locals from the surrounding cities come here in the evening to eat, drink and dance.

<div class="pull-left">

*Obwohl es noch recht früh ist und gerade erst dunkel wird sind schon ein paar Feiern im vollen Gange.*

</div>

<div class="pull-right">

Although it is still quite early and just getting dark, people are already dancing und you hear music everywhere.

<div class="pull-left">

*Mein persönliches Highlight ist aber der lange Sandstrand der von Herzlia bis in den Außenbereich von Tel Aviv reicht. Ich versuche die knapp 10 km zu laufen, muss jedoch gebremst von Badegästen und Sand nach zwei dritteln der Strecke aufgeben.*

</div>

<div class="pull-right">

But my personal highlight is the long sandy beach that reaches from Herzliya to the outskirts of Tel Aviv. I try to walk the almost 10 km, but I have to give up after two thirds of the distance. My progress was to slow because of the bathers and the sand.

<div class="pull-right">

The sun is approaching the horizon and all alone in the dark I don't want to end up on the beach.
There are a few spots with a lot of tourists, but on long parts in between there is almost nobody and so it is very nice with bare feet in the water that has a pleasant temperature.
