<p>The year was 2014, and it was a beautiful summer day in the city of Chicago. Unlike most summer days here it wasn’t insanely humid as there was just enough overcast. During the summer months my friends from university like to get together and play catch up while taking in what the city has to offer. This time a few dozen of us decided to take in the Spring Awakening music fest and attend as we could. The days were Friday, June 13th, Saturday the 14th and Sunday the 15th. Usually the bigger better acts would be there on Friday and Saturday so most people said they’d try to come on one if not both days.</p><center>

<p>Thursday had come and gone and I was entirely pumped to catch up with people I truly love and see and more than people I’d gone to school with. We decided to pre-game at one of their homes, which was fairly close to the event. Prior to going she told us she could only get a Lyft driver because she’d been flagged on Uber for giving bad reviews. At the time I had no idea what any of that even meant, as I was just really excited. That Friday afternoon we did shots of moonshine and were soon on our way.</p>

<p>I’m going to say there were maybe 7 of us trying to fit into a small ass car with a pink mustache on the front. I’m sure if someone had been watching it would have made for a good laugh. We arrived at the event and the music was shaking the ground from far away and I knew it was going to be a time to remember.&nbsp;</p>
<p>The lines were incredibly long. There were scalpers everywhere, girls bathing in glitter and guys that’d been working out for several months just leading up to this weekend. There were music acts everywhere. Inside of the stadium is where the main acts performed. Then outside you had other acts just as good. Crowds were everywhere and early on it was a hassle just moving from A to B. Midway through that first day my friends and I are just really feeling the music, enjoying ourselves and something terrible happens. We see a young lady next to us dying from an overdose. No one seems to give a shit and its awful to see in the least. We grabbed the girl, got her out of there and stayed with her at the medical tent until they said she would be fine. Immediately after we returned to our area and her “friends” asked us if she was going to be okay. They never stopped dancing and didn’t have a care in the world about her or anything else.</p>
<p>As the day went on many of our friends filtered in and out making for a great time. One in particular stood out to me because we’d been through a lot together and he wasn’t just a friend from university but like a brother to me. He and I never lost a beat regardless of how busy we both were as we'd find time to grab a drink and catch up. He told me how excited he was about the possibility of promotion and other exciting news in his life. He’d been on the force for the Chicago Police Department and I could say he was great at his job because he believed in humanity and in people. When I’d seen him that night I didn’t know it would be for the last time. We made plans to get together later the following month but he didn’t make it. He was killed just over a month later by a reckless driver.&nbsp;</p><center>

<p>This posting was inspired by someone I consider to be a good friend @chiefmappster as he thought it was necessary to let everyone in on just who he is and it heightened my comfort level as well. I hadn't seen any of the photos I am posting on here in years and the photo of his motorcycle just left me in a moment of pause/reflection.</p>
<p>The biggest take away from it all is that you should always make time to see the people that matter. Also, as much as I want to take credit for the things I do a lot of it is because others can't do anymore and I don't want to take my time or the time of others for granted. Be inspired by positivity. Believe in humanity and most importantly believe in yourselves as you are never alone in your journey.

Life is very short. I have lost many in my life and each one has given me great memories, memories that can never be forgotten. Live, love, and laugh because tomorrow is never promised. Great post reminding us what really matters in life.
