Living in a third world country, it's not rare to hear of thieves who picks pockets. These pickpockets can collect your valuables, even your phones from your pocket without you noticing. Once your guards are down for even a minute, pickpockets can do harm that will affect you for weeks.

There was a time a pickpocket stole my phone from my pocket while I was boarding a bus. I didn't even know, if not because there was a samaritan woman who told me to check my pockets. After I checked and discovered my phone was missing she showed me the thief (in a very coded way). And boom! That is how I got my phone back. I was so lucky. Not everyone has a lucky experience like mine.

Let's consider something you shouldn't do. Valuables should not be kept in your back pocket. It is the easiest to access by pickpockets. Try to store your valuables (including your wallet) in places you can see them.

If you are visiting the place for the first time. You do not want to look like a tourist, trust me. Pickpockets usually target these ones. A simple appearance too would not attract pickpockets. You do not want to look like a spendthrift. They like these ones too.

When in a place that is known that pickpockets are common. There is something my friend usually does. He puts on earpiece and plays music from his phone. This way if his phone is taken unknowingly, the music stops. Yay, and the pickpocket would be caught :)

Instincts also helpful. Follow your instincts. If your instincts says "check your pocket," do. Instincts have saved me a couple of times from pickpockets. If your instincts says someone is following you, try to go to a different direction to confirm.

Crowded places - that is the home of pickpockets. Be very careful when in crowded places. If you have a backpack, try to put it were you can see it. All your valuables should not be visible.
