Our brief heat wave turned to cool and breezy weather, and tonight was perfect and lovely and I needed a sweatshirt on to stay warm. I love this about Minnesota. 

I walked to a local hiking trail that runs through woods and has a maze of trails. As I walked into the deep canopy of trees I was instantly transfixed by the cavelike experience and mottled light, barely making its way through the leaves.

It is amazing space, with trails running every which way, and single track intersecting with groomed pathways.

Here and there along the paths are charming benches where you can take a rest when needed.

And there is a pretty glade with picnic tables where couples or families can bring food and enjoy a meal in nature.

One of the most amazing and confusing things I saw on some of the single track trails were equestrian signs. They appeared to be very old and there was no indication that horses had been in this forest in a very long time.
