Wow. Intense story, @deirdyweirdy!! I was wondering if someone would use that interpretation of the word "book" in a story. Well, she will end up behind bars, of course. But perhaps that is a better outcome, from her perspective, than spending a life stewing in her fury over the assault and injustice of the jury outcome. Sadly, I think this scenario -- sexual predators getting off free after assaulting women -- is fairly common. I don't understand it. At all.

The story was prompted by an article I came across yesterday reporting that in a survey on gender-based violence commissioned by the European Commission, 10% of the respondents thought sex without consent could potentially be justified if the victim had somehow not said no clearly enough. Yes, she will likely end up behind bars but as you say, knowing her attacker got off scot-free would be its own kind of prison.
