#### Greetings Steem Skillshare,

I'm @jobreyes24 a certified JLPT N4 passer. Today, I  will introduce my first step in learning Japanese. Japanese has three writing systems the Hiragana for native Japanese, Katakana for foreign words and names and  Kanji which is adopted from China. All three writing system important and has their role. Hiragana is mainly used for Japanese grammar, rare Kanji, and colloquial expression while katakana is mainly used for foreign words. Both hiragana and katakana are phonetic symbols representing one syllable and Kanji is mostly used in Japanese writing. Since Japanese writing has no space it serves as a separator within the sentence. And Japanese has plenty of homonyms so Kanji distinguish the correct word. Kanjis are ideogram and each stroke has certain meaning.

However, it is difficult to learn these writing systems altogether. So my first step in learning my Japanese is to practice writing both the hiragana and katakana at the same time as in the chart below. You can learn to write for a couple of days or a week.

Japanese has two diacritics, Dakuten ( `` ) and Handakuten ( ° ). It changes the character and forms into new characters.

Practicing writing and reading Hiragana and katakana is important because It is the basic way. It is the starting point if you miss it you can't continue to kanji because kanji also has components of hiragana and katakana. One of my way of enhancing my writing and reading is 
make my diary using katakana and hiragana everyday. It became a habit and master it. I also love Japanese songs so it became my inspiration. It sounds complicated but its worth and fun.
