Stay Humble By Learning New Languages!

Having learnt 3 languages I know it is a humbling process!  In our native tongues we are accustomed to expressing ourselves accurately with ease.  The initial stages of learning another language feel like reverting to childhood - where we lack the full capacity to express ourselves.  

*The struggle to explain oneself is humbling and an important experience at any point in life!  =)*

I have come to enjoy those moments of helplessness - smiling and laughing at my predicament.  Moments that humble me are always appreciated these days.  I no longer feel embarrassed! =)

I once had a friend relate to me a story of going to buy eggs at a supermarket in a new country.  My friend tried to express to the supermarket staff that he wished to purchase eggs.  He clucked loudly and flapped his arms repeatedly.  The staff member nodded and brought my friend *toilet rolls!*

Stay humble.... It makes us better people!  Learning a new language will help you understand more about your human family and keep you humble - *give it try!*

Learning languages is great but there isn't always time or energy unfortunately.
I too have been in the position where everybody is patiently waiting for me to make my point but i just luck the vocabulary to do so :)
Learning new languages is a great hobby.

People often say they have no time to learn something, especially a language. 

The next day you see them idle gaming on their phone in the train. Or staring at the roof of the supermarket while they wait 5, 6 or 7 minutes until they can pay. Or....

good message <3 by now I learned 6 languages (3 of them I speak fluently) it brings you so much closer to the people around you when you make the effort to learn the language of the country you live in.

hahaha I know that situation! 

As a language learner I always recommend that change your facebook or your cellphone language to the new language. I know it can be hard sometimes. 
But it really helps!

Learning a language can still be humbling even after speaking it and living in the native country for many years. I still make mistakes and have gaps in my Japanese. Come to think of it, there is actually a ton of stuff I don't even know in English!

hahahaha.... yes I understand the learning new languages humbling experiences, especially when you are learning as an adult. That fear barrier is way much thicker!
But when you know the language, even how little it is at first, the excitement of listening to something and actually could understand a little is just very rewarding!

@jockey, it's extremely humbling to learn a new language. I am currently learning French to add to my repertoire of English (only, for now). I have forgotten how it feels to not be able to express myself because I don't know how to form the work or have forgotten how to say a word. But I will persist because I want to learn many more languages.
