Our dental profession needs a clean and polish.  Unscrupulous dentists are charging clients for procedures they don't need.  I wrote a post about this recently.

In this post I was told in Australia that I had two *small* fillings to do but in Asia I was shown very clearly with my eyes that there were no fillings needed at all.

In Australia I was told that they would just *"quickly fill those up"* and almost began the procedure.  Needless to say I stopped them.  Recently I was having some interesting conversations which highlighted this and other corruptions in the dental industry.

*We must do a better job at regulating dentists!*

## The Unnecessary Fillings
I am not criticizing all dentists or doctors but the financial corruption which has polluted our health industry is massive and has penetrated dentistry as it has every other aspect of health.

After finding out that I was blatantly lied to in Australia so that profits for the dentist could be increased I was incensed.  I insisted on checking the entire tooth minutely while at the Asian dentist.  He was correct.  There were no fillings needed and it was obvious that the Australian dentist had completely lied to me.  She would have profited financially from this scam but also potentially harmed me in the process.

*This dentist's license should be revoked and I will be making a complaint the next time I am in Australia!*

## The Mercury Fillings & Removal
Everyone knows that mercury is poisonous yet they used a mercury based filling material in our teeth for years!  The teeth are in our head and impact our saliva.  Although this is the wrong post for this, like smoking cigarettes the dental industry knew the negative health impacts of using mercury yet they continued to recommend and promote it to the populace. 

The process of removing the dangerous mercury from our body must be done by a trained practitioner so that mercury does not enter our bodies.  Dentists are now removing these mercury fillings *(making more money)*, yet the level of education and the standards of practice for this procedure are poor and sometimes illogical!

A friend recently had all his mercury fillings removed and there seemed to little if any accounting for the flakes, flecks and pieces of mercury now running down his throat!  

*Disgraceful!  😡*

## Dental Accountability & The Block Chain?
OK so I have pointed out some of the problems we currently face in dentistry, as we do in all our medical industries.  However lets have a brief discussion about some solutions:

Imagine a world where dentistry was linked in a blockchain fashion.  They already use dental records to identify people so why not.  Imagine if every advice and procedure was listed *(perhaps using photo or video)* to provide a complete list of:

- dentists
- procedures
- costs
- proof of work

I know to some people that sounds terrible. Probably mostly to the dentists!  😉*  However if that were to happen and an acceptable method could be created how dentistry would change.  Imagine getting a quote in Australia and within five minutes be able to have a second opinion from a reputable dentist in Bangkok (prices included)?

That would shake these charlatans from their theft and complacency.  

*Anyway just a thought!*
