# Bitcoin is the best performing asset this year, but the fun may just be beginning

In many markets and many different asset classes, there is a trend that seems to play out over and over again.

That trend is retail money tending to pile it at the tops of cycles.

That trend was never more true in bitcoin back in late 2017.

Google trends and Twitter activity was exploding while bitcoin was making new higher after new high.

Not to mention the number of new Coinbase accounts was hitting record levels seemingly every week.

Fast forward to today and we aren't seeing retail FOMO their way in yet.

Google searches for bitcoin have barely budged over the last several months and twitter activity is just now starting to pick up:

If you go back and look at the spikes of bitcoin and when it tended to peak and you can see a correlation between twitter activity and tops in bitcoin's price.

Given that, we probably a few more months of increased twitter activity before bitcoin peaks this time around.

My guess is we have a big move end of this year that carries over into next year that may be a medium term top.

Then we have the blow off top end of next year that takes us to those $100k+ levels.
