Sound familiar? Yes, it's a real battle holding down a senior position in a full-time job and finding the time to make sure you're exercising and eating healthy. Often my commute started at 6am and I rarely made it home before 6pm and this lead to some bad habits, like regular snacking between meals and zero exercise. Life wasn't great. But when I plucked up the courage to leave a comfortable 6-figure salaried job in search of a more fulfilling life, I suddenly discovered I had time to try new things. Nothing major but I tried fully raw vegan for 21-days, which would have been really hard if I was preoccupied with work for 12 hours a day. And I was able to visit my family and friends more than the standard 4 weeks leave would allow. I even had time to get back into a bit of regular exercise. Life was great! And then I started to get into a few questionable sciences, like drinking Lemon Water first thing in the morning and I was even really keen on getting my blood cell health analyzed, and yes that's a thing. Now the Lemon Water was interesting because the pseudo-science was suggesting it could help low your bodies ph levels even though it's essentially an acid. I bought into it, but should have just watched this video instead. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TankFrHtQiM Forget the alkalizing effects lemons apparently possess once inside your body, it seems lemons just make a whole lot of sense with real science backing it up. But I tried Lemon Water none the less and even had ph strips to test my ph levels to check if it was making any difference. This was until... I started to get a swelling in my gum and after checking with the dentist it turns out I needed a root canal. Of course, there was no proof they were connected, but it was an expensive lesson and in hindsight maybe I should have used a straw. Now when I say **Lemon Water** I mean squeezing a whole lemon into a glass and adding equal parts water. It wasn't particularly pleasant but drinkable and it really did wake me up in the morning. One claim was it made your skin look healthier and fuller. Maybe it was aiding the collagen production as mentioned in that video, but I also learned you should drink a glass of water in the morning as soon as you wake up to help hydrate the body. So it could have just been that. Anyway, I've since discovered [Detox Water](http://www.easydetoxwater.com/) and find it's a more moderate way to pack in a few extra vitamins and ensures I drink my 8 glasses of water per day. Now I can't guarantee the health benefits of infusing fruits and vegetables into the water but it sure does taste better than plain water alone. And I find the [Lemon and Ginger Detox Water](http://www.easydetoxwater.com/lemon-and-ginger-detox-water/) actually works great for hangover relief, plus it can be warmed as a soothing tea in winter. It's a journey, I would have never started if I was still punching the clock at my old job. And my latest 'thing' is an interest in the keto diet, although the side effects (death) if you get it wrong, do scare me a little. But when I'm ready I'll jump in, suffer the [keto flu](https://blog.kettleandfire.com/keto-flu/) and learn for myself whether it's just hype or if it does help clean the mind fog. Have you also tried intermittent fasting? Like your raw vegan challenge it could be an interesting experiment for you (I did it for 30 days and now find myself gravitating towards it on most days, it's a pretty easy change to make)

I did a waterfast of 7 days what really improved my skin issues. Still not sure if it was the fast itself or that I didn't eat a certain food that my body can't handle. Pseudo-science has it often right but for the wrong reasons and most of the time the claims are exaggerated.

We can only survive 3-minutes without air, 3-days without water and 3-weeks without food. Sometimes we forget de-hydration is the cause of so many problems and given our bodies are around 60% water I'm not surprised your skin improved. But as you say, maybe leaving out toxins actually helped more. The trick is to reintroduce foods slowly to see if you can pinpoint the exact ones causing the problem.

Lemon water is great, but you definitely need to dilute with water. I find the acidity also hurts my teeth. It's good to swish a mouthful of water after drinking lemon water.
