Note to Self #5: You're Doing Alright Kid

With the kind of motivational speakers, quotes, stories and personalities we have thanks to the never ending social media feeds - it seems like all who make it are a superior race in the genetic pool.

It's hard not to be taken in by the amazing feats, and the kind of discipline and dedication that propel them. I love the dedication and discipline - but I forgot I was NOT them! I was ME!

I've always set my standards and aspirations based on humanity's model sentient beings. These are the guru's who have made it. They have got it together. It's such a romantic notion to strive for.

The thing I realised as I looked in the mirror is, I look nothing like these successful individuals. No, I looked like .... Well, myself!

Pretty average, ordinary, nothing special.

As I caught these self deprecating thoughts, the image of a child with special needs came to mind.

I've overlooked my own SPECIAL needs

Despite our outer appearances - we each have our weakness or rather uniqueness. What we see as flaws and weaknesses are actually our strengths that have YET to be been accepted, realised, unlocked and applied.

Coming back to the special needs analogy - I wouldn't motivate that child based on the Olympic champion! No, I would nurture and share with the child, based on where he/she is.

I would BUILD the child up, then LOVINGLY guide him/her to their best.

And let's take a moment to address the label SPECIAL needs here. When we are created differently from the rest, it doesn't put us at a disadvantage - it puts us with different physical requirements. It doesn't make us LESS capable - it gives us the opportunity to express our innate human structure.

It's about time we started looking at our OWN intelligence, gifts, skills and abilities differently - UNIQUELY.

We are too often given tools that are PROVEN (no doubt) - but do not stop to ask if it FITS our PRESENT needs, where we are NOW.

Worse yet - we often attach so much meaning and expectations to those tools - because they brought a certain outcome for others - we base our growth, learning and unwittingly - our expectations on it.

Tools ARE meant to be used - with our acceptance and willingness to experience it FOR ourselves, based on our OWN intent for growth/learning/fun/experimentation - whatever it is that we SET out to do.

BUT, we can not hope to reach a target, without honestly accepting where we are now.

Where we are now is not BAD or GOOD - it is SIMPLY where we are at! No judgement, just acceptance.

Where we are is perfect for us!

It's time we stopped terrorising, bullying and trolling ourselves even before we've begun.

We are each unique in our genetic makeup, and every single experience that has made us who we are.

We can NEVER BE like Tony Robbins, and we should NOT be trying to either. We are our own < insert your name here >. The BEST version of who we are.

We should accept and love our UNIQUE self, and apply ourselves and talents accordingly.

We will achieve our goals and desires of course - just a little differently!

We are doing well! Each of us! Having come this far, we're doing well. The journey's first step can only begin from where we stand - how does one argue with that?
