LANDSCAPE/SEASCAPE CONTEST WEEK #007 ~ Admiral's Harbour View ~
This photo is my entry for @axeman's Landscape/Seacape Photo Contest. Now this is just between you and me, ok?  Don't let @axeman know that this photo was a reject from a commisioned job for a 6 ft by 4 ft sign for a condominium.  I did get the job, and I'll show you the photo that the condo board selected, but _I like this one better._

Just for interest (not for the contest), I'm posting the photo the condo picked for the sign - which is on Admiral's Road, just up the road from the Navy base.

One of the reasons the condo board selected the second shot is the large amount of empty space on the left side which gave them room for text - the name of the condo, and the address.  I heard later on that one of the nine board members refused to vote for _any_ photo... not mine or any of the other entries.  _Why can't we have a white sign with words?_ he said.  I don't like pictures!  At least the other 8 board members did not agree :)

Here is a photo of the sign, and this is kind of embarrassing.  I was told that it was a competition with at least a half-dozen other photographers.  This was my first commercial sale and I had no idea what to charge.  To keep the price down, I agreed to have them put my name on the photo - like that would be worth anything!   I now think it kind of ruined the image and it makes the thing look so bush-league.  In any case, here is the sign which they say is supposed to last for fifteen years.

If you view this large you can see "keithboone.com" in the bottom right corner...  I actually went out and bought the domain name so they would have something to put there.  This was a few years ago, and nobody has managed to "click" on my name on that sign, so I'm not sure it did much for me...

As a note to other beginning photographers - always ask for a decent price for your work.  Don't settle for having your name on something, it does no good.

I remember when you made this sale!  We're we on Tsu then? It doesn't seem like it was that long ago, and Tsu seems like it was a lifetime ago! # headerMy big deal was a professor at MIT approached me about using one of my photos in a text book that he was writing. No money, but I would get photo credit. I was honored, and agreed. And I have never heard another word since. So I don't know if my photo is being used in a textbook or if his project ever made it to completion. I agree. Money works best!
