Gosh, wishing you would die for that long? That's intense. I'm so glad you aren't in that space now. We DO have this unnatural fear of death where we try to keep it at bay, and when it comes, it can be terrifying for some. I think I'm struggling with it as my father is sick at the moment (kinda why @metametheus came up with this question, in response to a big conversation in Nat Med) whilst AT THE SAME TIME knowing he's going back to the source, and that's fine. We are contrary creatures, feeling both sadness and joy at the same time. Life's great dualities. 

Dad became vego pretty much for the same reason as you back in 1974. Didn't stop cancer coming for him, motherfucker that it is - or rather, war was the motherfucker that likely caused the cancer in the first place. Anyway, I just wrote about it in more detail for my response, where I get to the same point in a different way I guess.

Its funny that in a way acceptance of death can justify the opposite type of lifestyle too. There are those who would say "I could die at any moment anyway, I want to enjoy what I'm eating!" Then they're off to Maccas. 

My mother-in-law is obese and apart from a roast dinner once a week, pretty much eats cake. However, she's widowed, has rheumatoid arthritis and has had parts removed from two forms of cancer. Friends and family around her are dying and I figure she just wants to enjoy the little things while she waits for God. She may have had a more comfortable life earlier on had she lived a more healthy lifestyle, but she's been this way so long, I don't think it matters to her any more. We all have our ways of getting through things, I guess.

@minismallholding, I hear you on this. I've got a lot of relatives that hold that same reasoning to do as they please without thought of the consequences to them or anyone/thing else. They'll get a warning about diabetes, change their habits until they feel better, then go back to the old patterns and end up on insulin when the whole thing was preventable. I am struggling to no end with this right now with my parents, and it has been a heartbreaking week.

@kennyskitchen, I agree. This is precisely what I try to teach by example in our lives. Our whole lifestyle is built on the premise of food as medicine. We grow a lot of our food so that we can control how it is grown while also minimizing our overall footprint and dependence on systems that I don't trust and terrifying corporations. We don't know what the future holds but I'd rather embrace this life healthily and thoughtfully than play at this crazy game of not knowing what I am putting into my body.

I have a friend in England who was diagnosed with diabetes. He could have controlled it with diet and he tried for a bit. Didn't last long and under the NHS medication is free, so it was easier to go on the tablets. Because he works for the council he also gets paid leave, as a diabetic, if he's having a bad day. So all the incentive is there to to do nothing about it. In just four years his teeth had gone bad, his health deteriorated rapidly and he looked like he'd aged ten years! It was sad to see, but what can you do.

@kennyskitchen, It's our responsibility to protect our Temple (Body) and we are vibrational beings and if we stay healthy then inturn it brings abundance of happiness in our life and inturn we will reflect the abundance in environment and the more positive vibes we release more positive environment we create around us.

everywhere our life may end suddenly but when you take care of yourself, that is a different thing.  If we die, atleast we didn't let our body being sick all the time and that will be amazing.

Reading this makes me feel kinda selfish and guilty as I'm not at a point in my life at the moment where perhaps all my decisions consider the impact on the world around me. 

 I totally believe in the ripple effect too, but I have only tied it to human connections and our actions or a culmination of them can affect someone mentally, spiritually or physically.  I've not considered the broader picture..
