In a hollow kind of tin-can way, she heard him going in and out like speaker-wire not making its connection.  Put her right pointer finger into the canal to protect her kittenish ear. She couldn’t believe he’d be doing this now, after all of that orange drain had eaten away the hammer, anvil and stirrup, just after her six month post hearing test, the seven hour mastoidectomy and the placing of a titanium hearing device. All removed in the first surgery, but one leg of her stapes so that there’d be something sound waves could bounce off from.

  *No sneezing, or sudden movements and certainly no loud headphones!* 

But the fresh from John Hopkins surgeon hadn’t mentioned douchebag boyfriends with voluminous rage and it was in that tin-tin slap of his shouted shards hitting metal, that she swerved her Mazda 626 at sixty to the side of the state highway, punched at the steering wheel, letting out the voice of her own inner banshee just before jumping out and running down along the tracks. 

Her chest a stretched snare, her tears the watery glockenspiel peels of  moments in time where sounds are muffled and a brain tears itself to a half sheet of untouched, white paper, to pull itself away from a thunderous, blind in lightning storm and the staining ink-spill just before, never-again! 

The real day, away from sonic-boom was sixty-four-degree sun and the poplar trees round the tracks glowed, shadowed, almost silently scratched in a light breeze.

Oh my I just jumped through so many emotions I lost count! First the medical trauma over time, then I laughed at "But the fresh from John Hopkins surgeon hadn’t mentioned douchebag boyfriends with voluminous rage" then went all nutso with the banshee and watery glockenspiel cacophony. All the while trees were scratching quietly in the light wind. Excellent!

Prefacing here before I move on to do anything else: I know this possibly is connected to the @jayna #microfiction contest (the 250-word taskers) and it very much has the tempo of such. With that said, I won't budge on rules since yah comply with them and the what nots :p<br>
The foto (photo): Yah know, yah are what yah eat, and the first thing we eat is what we see. Many would think picking out a foto (photo) is a cutesy thing or just a complimentary when it does have a big effect on whether it hooks in or makes people sick. And staring at this foto (photo), it really hooks me in, despite it being a contingent part (both in contingent events that doesn't feel necessitated and contingent as in part of; gotta love how English can work on ambiguities! Sorry, freaking out too much like a Witgenstenian beating up a Derridaen on linguistics). From the way we get to see the railway in the background which then leads to the bridge (over a river?) all trapped by a forest. Which then all points towards, contingently (necessity as its dialectical double), towards oure person of concern in the center of the pictura (picture). With her (I assume the pronoun) looking down, probably for the æsthetics of the river or just relaxing (or maybe shooting for a foto). But it definitely has a mojo and nice gelling when we get to the post proper.<br>
Unto the post itself: Since not much stands in the way for formatting other than a decentered pictura, some usage of italics and paragraphs, not much to comment. So, unto the story of which we shall parse through the one less than two-fifty words here. Since the prompt was sound, I was glad to see everything related to sound being played of quite nicely here (especially when yah constantly relate back to the pictura and the female observer, which I just noticed how comfy those clothes look). Especially with the telling parts gelling well with the showing parts (especially with the italics coming out of nowhere and feeling like a memory bursting through the seems). And the story of why she has such sensititvity is just outright depressing (and reflective) of the society she has to course and navigate through. Though I caught that on early, I wonder if the others caught on to that little throwaway-non-throwaway commentary there? Eh, I will just throwaway that comment to be sure.<br>

<i>{Heyo, @theironfelix here. Commenting here on the behalf of (and we did talk this over a bit) the @bananafish. Since this was beautifully crafted, I want to talk about the actual story itself.}</i>

>In a hollow kind of tin-can way, she heard him going in and out like speaker-wire not making its connection.

From the ground running, serving in a double movement as both hook and the premise of the story, do we get to not understand the character's heightened/sensitive hearing, but equally the implied suffering as well. It helps well that we get to visualize the audio and its relationship to her ears, like that hollow tin-can. Helps as well that we got established a sorts of non-combat conflict from the start. Which while not antagonistic, certainly does exist and helps as a vehicle to carry on the rest of the story.

>All removed in the first surgery, but one leg of her stapes so that there’d be something sound waves could bounce off from.

Which while we could've guestimated on how with the previous sentence she was able to here, this tell-shown sentence works really well as that paragraph closer. It doesn't just literally tell us that she has a certain medical instrument there for her to help with hearing. There's a certain more-ness to that sentence which must be remembered back to the preceding sentences that not only make sense of this but of those previous established scenes. This more-ness showing <i>why</i> she feels and, with no ridicule, implying very much (which is a correct outlook) that emotions are rational and reasoning can be displayed by emotional states. But let's stop before we get too bogged down into philosophy of reasons and emotions.

><i>No sneezing, or sudden movements and certainly no loud headphones!</i>

If there's one sense I will never get over, it is the fact that doctors while trying to give guidance to the patient on how not to screw themselves over make it so that it is their fault only for getting into it and their responsibility to get into shape again. When it isn't entirely the case, especially with contingent events and how they necessitate themselves later in ways we wouldn't expect; especially how she got into it and how she'll suffer from complete ærsholes on her commute.

For while we can all just deride her, qua victim, for making these actions, it's childish to do so especially when we were given context beforehand that justifies her emotional outrage. And while his does seem like the climax of all the previous buildups, I argued that this is only the false peak to which the bigger peak happens right after this paragraph. But to linger a bit more: it certainly is an expected outcome in our day and age with how society hones in on individualism and gets shocked by these outcomes. Yet I shan't get into the backgrounds and influences of these symptoms that comes from the definite cause that is the promotion of individualism to the point of atomizing people.

>Her chest a stretched snare, ... blind in lightning storm and the staining ink-spill just before, never-again!

This is probably the true climax of the entire piece. The culmination and proving point that everything had happened here, yet not the piece of obscenity that confirms that everything has been resolved (yet). It is also at its most "showy" for this piece (albeit I believe showing is much like telling but more eloquently), done very well

>The real day, away from sonic-boom was sixty-four-degree sun and the poplar trees round the tracks glowed, shadowed, almost silently scratched in a light breeze.

Here's our point of obscenity! Albeit this is "just merely a descriptor" of what's going on, it does feel as if Nature is surrounding her and being comforted from the World of mechanical noises. To no longer see nor have to hear them, to be shielded away. Thus confirming what has happened has happened, despite being its "own scene," and providing a proper closer to the entire entry.
