Without realizing, it is already the last 2 days of June 2018 and I am left with another 6 months of 2018 to do the resolutions that I had set for myself from the start. Frankly, I was kinda lost in this month whereby several events had led me to rethink what I am doing and where should I head to. So this post will be a random rant to myself and get things straight to face the other half of 2018.

## Some reasons for me to be lost:

The industry that I am in is very vulnerable and heavily dependent on a small group of customer segments which are developers and government. Without the drive to build more properties and infrastructure, there will be no business for consultants and even contractors to earn a living, not to even say profiting. Around this time, there are a lot of projects slowing down and not making any significant projects. New projects are not many to cater to the supply of consultancy services available in the market. 

In addition to that, I am seeing public and private university are producing hundreds of architecture and engineering graduates who are trained to contribute through what they learned during their academic pursuance. Unfortunately, there are just too many graduates out there able to provide a similar standard of service but at a lower price. This ends up with a lower wage range for the fresh graduates which are a normal reaction of the supply and demand cycle. 

## So what I am doing now?

I always wanted to make a difference to the community, to better people’s lives through my design and commitments. However, am I able to achieve this with what I am doing now? From my understanding, there are two ways to do a business, one is through product and the other one is service. In terms of product, it can be multiplied and the impact can be very big. On the other hand, service is very localized and specific to an entity (either individual or a company). What I am providing now is more to a service rather than a product which is to facilitate the developers to realize their property development. The sad part is that there are thousands of consultancy services out there that are able to provide the same service that I am doing now. In other words, it is already a red ocean to be in and fees are getting lower and lower to be competitive. There are only a handful of established and well-known firms that are still able to get a good price due to their branding. Nonetheless, the majority is not very sustainable and there is a lot on the verge of bleeding out. 

Seeing and hearing about these time to time, it really demoralizes me daily and I started to lose the sense of purpose in my daily tasks. I started to question myself, am I really going to just get on the same road and do the same thing, knowing the outcome would be devastating as now? If not, then what I am going to do? There are some friends of mine are in constant chase of the height of their wages and benefits, which are normal and rational. As for me, I would still be tempted by a big salary pay and good benefits. Again, when I remind myself about the reality that I saw, even with a steady and sustainable salary pay, I would be thinking about the growth curve that I am able to project. Logically speaking, the curve will be not an exponential growth but a logistic growth which is not attractive to me at all. The only way for me to get an exponential growth is to build a product rather than a service. 

## So what's next?

Now, I am clear that I want to build a product and it should be able to multiply my time cost and create a positive cash flow. I would rather prefer to invest my time to create a product that will need less time commitment in the future than having a service that requires a constant and similar amount of time for every quality service provided. This could free my time up for me to create more valuable moments with my loved ones. So, the question is what kind of product I am going to build? Who should I build for? How to build a product that utilizes my expertise in architecture? I would say that there are endless possibilities for me to explore and do. The only thing matter is that I am courageous enough to make the move and keep it going.  

Kickstarting my daily commitment to writing and creating different milestones for my 'product'. Well, @archisteem and the 1001 Places to Remember is actually part of the vision to make different products that could be a great service and benefit to the community. I will be reorganizing my stuff for these few days and writing about my feeling and thoughts along the way. In the end, I want to list out the milestones for the other half of 2018 and get going. It will be an exciting 6 months!
