Every now and then we must take stock of our learning practices, to check if we have learnt something new in the recent past or not?

"New" doesn't necessarily mean that we randomly start learning anything and everything under the sun, rather it means, are we updating our existing knowledge regularly?

And if we are not, we clearly need to reassess the work that we are involved in. The reason why most people are not keeping themselves updated on their work front is that they are not interested in what they are doing. They are just slogging through it.

The irony is, the things that we are interested in are different from the work that we are involved in.

But sometimes, we *have to* even if we don't *want to*.

Let's talk about the **Have to** & **Want to** of learning!

*I have to learn* and *I want to learn*, both appear the same but have different meanings.

The **Have to** kind of learning is when you are doing it because of compulsion whereas the "Want to" kind of learning is when you eagerly looking forward to learning something without any compulsion.

Example:

I have to learn, my boss told me to.
I want to learn, I enjoy it.
 
There are two different kinds of emotions attached to these statements. Nothing is right or wrong, the point is, where do we spend most of our time, in "Have to" or "Want to"?
