I totally agree with you on this! Instead of dealing with Earth problems we invest in some other planet discovery. That is the definition of *Fight or flight* reaction, but we are running away..

The human arrogance has no bounds. They think they're bigger than the universe, but as you mentioned, those 'scientist' idiots are only living in a fantasy. Going to Mars? Terraforming other worlds? Get real. They'll be shattered by extreme weather, radiations, no water and no air, before they have time to recycle their poop into plants.

Hollywood has convinced me it is a bad idea. I am just waiting for the scientific community to change my mind.

We have so many problems on this earth that we can't handle and we are worried about life on other planets ?

I feel like the tide is turning in popular culture a bit. One of the best books I've read this year was Kim Stanley Robinson's *Aurora* which I [blogged about last month](https://steemit.com/books/@winstonalden/shrinking-horizons-in-hard-science-fiction-review-of-the-three-body-problem-and-aurora). It was an especially moving story about a "generation ship" (another classic space-exploration meme) and all the things that could go wrong with such a wildly complex operation. 

It managed to be a tale of survival while simultaneously being a tale of defeat. And this from an author whose *Mars* Trilogy did a lot to popularize the ideas of terraforming.

As a lover of SF, I have mixed feelings about this. But it does show that rational voices are starting to enter the conversation about space exploration.

Interesting: "the greatest threat for humanity is the dreamers that do not understand how things work but have an equal voting power to everyone else..."  

...I'm a dreamer. Guilty as charged. So naturally my dreamer instincts are kicking in and opposed to that opinion.  I also happen to think that space exploration is awesome. Because S-P-A-C-E. 

And perhaps, if the world was indeed filled with skeptics i.e. the crippling minority, then maybe I wouldn't be sitting here typing out my views on a computer, making it instantly accessible to millions of people,  on this little old platform known as Steemit, where this very comment provides me an opportunity to  make some moolah off of digital currency.

I think people use any reason to try and convince others that we must leave the nest. Its always the same; leave Europe, go west, go to Alaska, to tha moon. The 60s and 70s, the reason for colonizing space was all about over-population on earth, so it really is not the dream or reason that makes us leave its just human nature. We will be saying the same thing when people want to leave sol. 

The all the eggs in one basket is a big reason for Elon Musk mars people and I agree with that. The main reason and how we will accomplish the task of going to space is that it will be an adventure, and the price is right. The asteroid problem could use more preventive maintenance as well, we need to start looking at all the rocks zooming around out there. All of my fellow space dreamers acknowledge that earth should and always be home and should be treated like so. I look at the sky is falling people and compare them to over zealous religious people who are just trying to get me to join there cult and pay tithes to there god. 

I also know that we could stop pointing our weapons at each other and the earth and we could have a university on mars by now. If we wanted to.

Just a belief or is there any substance to the claims?

I am a dreamer and a cynic rolled into one. While I don't support warfare, I recognize that significant technological advances have come into play because we, as a species, are intent on finding the best ways to kill. Likewise, serious technological breakthroughs have come about because of the efforts we've made in inner space. 

You are right that we are not currently in a position to

That said, we're also developing a very real understanding of our own climate that has been made possible by the crap we've put into orbit, not the least of which is ISS.

Petty infighting, resource wars, and the unending cyclic nature of political posturing means we'll likely destroy ourselves before we ever reach the technological capabilities required to get off this rock for the long term. 

Sylvia Engdahl wrote a book called, [The Far Side of Evil](http://www.sylviaengdahl.com/fsoe.htm), that discusses civilization teetering on the edge. It's a YA novel from the '70s, and yet, maintains its relevance.

I have been heavily researching the whole space and globe vs the flat earth and I have yet to see where the globe is legit!  Flat earth has made me a believer and that is not an easy thing to do! so I am really not buying into the Mars colonization or that we have been to the Moon thing at all for sure the whole moon landing was a hoax and was filmed by Stanley Kubrick. So Just do some investigation and make up your own minds as we all should do and not just be brainwashed by the so called Science and Nasa crisis actors. Lets just take care of our home here and find out who we really are and discover our incredible talents when we break our minds free from the Programme installed by those that want to keep us enslaved to their agendas! just sayin.....love and light to you all! How much work could be done shifting the money that is currently spent on warfare all over the planet towards something that unproved everyone's situation? The problem is that the Military Industrial Complex would go bankrupt and we can't have that.

I find it difficult to believe anyone takes this shit seriously when so much money is spent every day killing people and blowing shit up.

I think it would be nice to establish a human colony elsewhere, for various reasons. But trying to achieve this goal based on emotional reactions is not the good thing to do. We need to carefully think and organize the project, before doing anything. 

I didn't know about those guys planning to go elsewhere in space as a consequence of the climate changes, but that is one of the most craziest idea I have ever read about. I am totally with you on this point!

We may have the posible tecnology in not much generations but I think it'll be too dumb to think start colonies in other planets while we cannot solve the social problems that we have here, and still don't knowing if we can solve it all.

They say that space is the final frontier but its made in a Hollywood basement. The truth is stranger than fiction....and fiction is does not reality make...nor does a mantra ever produce truth.

Today I read an article that Vodafone and a german start up are planning to set LTE based internet towers on the Moon , soon we will be watching space colonization to happen.

They try to escape reality. Like having stolen a very valuable item belonging to their professor, hahaha

I don't think the climate nazis that think that colonizing other planets is the solution to climate change really exist in any significant numbers and I feel that's really a misunderstanding of what many people are saying or thinking.

On one hand you have climate change and there are many people that think that it is indeed a serious issue worth tackling regardless of the way we want to try and do this. Btw, the link to your climate change post from before has the link twice or something and doesn't really work. Of course, it's easy to copy the correct link manually after you see the 404.

On the other hand, you have the much more distant idea that we can colonize other planets. I think most people out there that are talking about the first and the second have no delusions on which one is more feasible and understand that humanity has only one planet to live on for the foreseeable future and it's this one. Colonizing other planets is something to be done to ensure humanity's survival on a much broader scale than the problem of global warming regardless of agreement or disagreement on the cause, possible consequences and/or possible measures.

I think when most people say we need to do something about climate change and that we need to colonize other planets, they don't mean that we need to colonize Mars, so we can escape our home planet with altered climate. I think most of us realize that even if Earth becomes a disaster zone, it would still be more hospitable to human life, life in general and most importantly larger populations than the barren surface of Mars could be in any reasonable terms for any person alive today.
