<div class="text-justify"><p>La tradición de celebrar el Día del Trabajo como fiesta nacional tiene más de cien años de antigüedad. Desde su concepción original como celebración sindical, se ha convertido en un símbolo de la lucha trabajadora. Comenzó en 1882 en Nueva York con el desfile de un puñado de trabajadores en homenaje a la clase obrera de dicha ciudad. El primer lunes de septiembre fue elegido para celebrar dicho desfile, y los organizadores decidieron llamar esta fecha como el día del trabajo.</p></p></div> 

<div class="text-justify"><p>Del mismo modo, el Partido Socialista celebró el 1 de mayo en honor a la clase obrera y fue llamado el día internacional del trabajo. Fue celebrado por socialistas y comunistas, por lo tanto en los Estados Unidos, el primer lunes de septiembre fue seleccionado con el fin de desvincularse de cualquier identificación con el comunismo.</p></p></div>

<div class="text-justify"><p>Hacia el final de la última década del siglo XIX, las organizaciones laborales presionan las legislaturas estatales para que designen el Día del Trabajo como un día oficial de fiesta estatal. En 1887, los primeros estados que lo declararon día festivo estatal fueron: Oregón, Colorado, Nueva York, Massachusetts y Nueva Jersey. En 1894, el Congreso aprobó una ley que designó el Día del Trabajo como un día oficial nacional.</p></p></div>

<div class="text-justify"><p>Actualmente el Día del Trabajo se celebra en los Estados Unidos, Canadá y otros países industrializados. Aunque en los Estados Unidos es una fiesta general, que también coincide con el final de la temporada de verano; en los países europeos sus raíces con la clase trabajadora no siguen siendo claras.</p></p></div>
