Thanks for your comment and vote! Yes, I guess I've been a bit stingy with my photo posts. I will indeed try and expand on my comments in future ones. Its funny how I think no-one would really be interested in how it came about, and to let it stand for itself, but thats a bit assumptive I guess :-)
As you have been so kind as to give me  a well deserved kick me in the pants, I will indeed bore you to tears with the background to this one.

I  was living in England at the time, about 30 years ago, and have always had an interest in the romance of old places that stand as testament to time but have no real explanation as to how they came to be. Sure, there is lots of guess work about how they were built and what they might be for, but an educated guess is not proof that it was so. The mystery is very enticing.
Oh, how it came about? Well, I was on a motorcycle trip wanting to go to France. It had been planned for months. I was living in Somerset and wouldn't you know, the ferries were on strike leaving from Plymouth that week, but not from Dover on the other side of the country! Not wanting to miss out, I decided to travel there to catch the ferry, but took advantage of the fact to make a stop here at Salisbury plain. It was a pain in the proverbial waiting until the people walking around were either out of shot or unseen behind the stones, but the result, I think, was worth it. As I recall I somehow ended up in Ostend and riding around a hideous one-way system for half the night going around in circles.... but thats another story. Hey. stop snoring!  :-)
