Alternative Decentralised Social Networks

<p>It seems recently that there is an explosion of alternative decentralised social networks, many built on a blockchain. I'm having trouble keeping track of them all and was wanting to build a list of them and get some feedback from people using them.&nbsp;</p>
<ul>
  <li>Decentralised?</li>
  <li>Censorship resistant?</li>
  <li>KYC? What private information do they want?</li>
  <li>Audience - is there a reasonable user base?</li>
  <li>Do they pay crypto?</li>
</ul>
<p>Why am I asking this when we already have Steemit? We all know the advantages of decentralised social networks that payout crypto. So of course Steemit will naturally breed it's own competition over time. Just in the same way others are learning from Steemit in building their platforms, perhaps Steemit can learn from theirs.</p>
<p>Secondly, a social network platform is nothing without its user base. We are all publishing our content for maximum exposure, so it only follows that the best exposure is where one can reach a bigger audience. Note I wrote, can reach. Facebook has an unrivalled potential audience, but you simply can not reach them because you have to pay to play.</p>
<p>Thirdly, we are all facing the very real threat of having all of our online content and opinions scrutinised and censored by the internet heavyweights as outlined in today's breaking news regarding a <a href="https://www.breitbart.com/tech/2018/10/09/the-good-censor-leaked-google-briefing-admits-abandonment-of-free-speech-for-safety-and-civility/">leaked internal Google document "The Good Censor"</a> discussing such things as, "free speech on the internet is no longer viable." So identifying the best channels to freely express ourselves is important.</p>
<p>I'll update this post with your feedback in the comments so we can all benefit from an oversight of is happening out there.&nbsp;</p>

Diaspora and Friendica (which may or may not be called something else now) have been around for ages.  They're probably more distributed than decentralised, probably censorship resistant (last I checked only the poster could edit/delete a post), not much kyc (email needed to sign up, provide add much or as little profile as you want).

Friendica had trouble taking off and diaspora was very slowly growing when I left (which i did only because i was starting to cull socnets by this point as keeping up with a lot was getting a bit much for me. 

Neither of them do blockchain or pay in crypto though, or at least didn't back then XD

After that i haven't really been keeping track but there have been a plethora of them sprouting exponentially haven't there.

Sola is another that I have played with. It does have censorship, I believe so they can attract advertisers. The developers seem to be having trouble working out what exactly makes their network useful and make some very bad decisions in the process. It was once called Plag and has a good community from those days. Now they try and award Sol coins which are worthless at the moment. I think it is a mixture between Instagram and Tinder. As with all these things time will tell if it amounts to much.

I've been wondering this as well, and these two I joined thanks to @gric Weku I need to get back on and I'm waiting for approval for the smoke one. I don't know if either coin is accepted anywhere yet, but it doesn't hurt to collect them up and see. If the world is moving towards social media with tips, I'm all for it :)
