The longer Bitcoin is around (and, particularly, the higher the price goes), the more of these moments of "finding cryptocurrency religion" we're going to see.

Although, for the moment, expect them to continue to be awfully back-handed.

Deutsche Bank, one of our favorite "too big to fail" financial behemoths, released a memo late February in which they were begrudgingly forced to admit some legitimate potential use-cases for Bitcoin on a mainstream level, even if they hedged with a "Mad Max" clause.

The following quote from the memo is the one that caught the eye of crypto-enthusiasts:

"If we lived in a dystopian world without trust, bitcoin might dominate existing payment methods."

Of course, you have to realize these banks don't really believe in a legitimate possibility of such an event. So, this is their way of acknowledging the logic inherent in the use case for Bitcoin while also casually lumping adherents into the "prepper/nut" category.

Frankly, I think these guys are capable of both doing math and reviewing the basics of history. Every unbacked currency in history has failed. No situation of such extreme global leverage and over-printing has ever been resolved with austerity.

It's quite likely they aren't really this dumb...they just need to ensure there are always uninformed suckers for them to take advantage of.

As Deutsche Bank also notes in their memo, "many consumers value convenience over data privacy." This is undeniably the truth in the current market, as we can see pretty clear in products like Facebook that directly monetize your data for the sake of providing you the "convenience" of their service. In fact, I would venture a guess that consumers are valuing privacy less than they ever have in recorded modern history.

It's only logical that institutions that are beholden neither to ethics or laws would hedge their bets in as many directions as possible. The larger the market cap of the entire cryptocurrency space, they more they will appear to appreciate it. This will enable them to make claims in 10 years that "they were among the first in the mainstream to acknowledge the value of XXXXXX."
