Anyone can aspire for leadership; however, the level of greatness reached depends on how much impact the leader makes and the level of receptivity of the followers.
Just like the popular saying goes, a leader leads by example. He/she demonstrates how they want those they lead to follow by they themselves being of service to others.
**Leadership is not a position neither is it a title; it is a place of service**. Leadership is earned. Based on the bible text, Jesus is the perfect example of a good leader. We see how Jesus stooped so low to washing his disciples' feet despite the fact He was their leader, the messiah and the son of God. He would have decided not to do it but instead he did as a result of teaching us humility. Many leaders today will never do it.
What earthly position or office are you holding that is competing with your service to God?
John 13:16 says " verily, verily say I unto you, the servant is no greater than his Lord, neither he that is sent greater than he that sent him". We were created for service. The created cannot be greater than his creator.
In John 13:13-14 "ye call me master and Lord and ye say well for so I am, if I then, your master, have washed your feet; ye also ought to wash one another's feet".
This is a juxtaposition not to be taken literally, it means just as I have humbled myself amongst you, so ye humble yourselves amongst one another.
Take a minute and ask yourself : what then should be my motive for service and leadership. These are my answers :
- your motive must be product and result oriented.
- to help other believers grow spiritually and aspire for greatness.
- to assist weak and immature believers become more consistent and confident in their service to God.
>To be great, you must be a servant and promote unity among brethrens.
Christ is the central and focal point of every believer. If we look unto Jesus as the author and finisher of our faith, then we must imitate him as our master, role model and mentor. We must also have the same motivation that he had. When a leader serves his followers, he teaches them on how to serve others.
