It's the shortest night of the year and I'm up at 4am unable to sleep, not because the light is coming back or because of the intermittent traffic noise outside my window but because my head won't shut off.  I had a bad dream about 2am, can't remember details and then Mrs Davis was talking in her sleep "Ah you see this is how it is done in Germany!" - random.

And then I realised it's midsummer, a magical time. The time, in this hemisphere when the sun reaches it's peak and from here on in it's fading back away.  It's the end of the in-breath and the beginning of exhalation.  It's a pause at the top of the mountain, before we trudge down the other side, all the while remembering that our brothers and sisters in the southern hemisphere have reached the bottom of the valley and will now start rising out of winter.

So enjoy this point in the global cycle, say hello to our friend Sun when he comes bursting back over the eastern horizon tomorrow.  Love his warmth and brightness and take some of it for yourself because it is your birthright.
