So you clean the attic and you think you've finished and then you invite someone up there to look and admire your work and the first thing they say to you is "You've missed a bit, there are still some cobwebs up there".  Gaaah!  

So do you leave them, or get the steps back out, clime up and finish the job?  The answer is the difference between staying small and growing (maybe growing up)

There's always more to do.  You can have a big spring clean, you should! but there'll always be stuff that needs a wipe a week later no matter what.

It's the same (if that wasn't already clear) with the inner workings of improving your character.  You might have worked hard on cleaning your inner temple, dealt with the darkest, dirtiest secrets, transcended them and found forgiveness, but when you look again, there's still more to do.  A daily routine, like brushing your teeth is useful and desirable, but somehow also almost impossible for most people, all of the time - it just feels like too much work.  Too hard when you've been busy already and done so much to get the step ladder and the feather duster out and sweep those last few corners clean.

But it's worth it.  It pays off.  Chaos is circumvented, order is restored, life gets better, the world gets lighter and friendlier.  But the work is never ending, there's no resting on the laurels, however much I'd like that, digging deeper, clearing and cleaning, poking around and turning the muck into gold means that the cobwebs lose their power, they find it difficult to come back, the spiders give up and go someplace else.

So clean house and sleep well!
