Those of you who have followed me for a while probably know that I love Berlin. There is so much culture and history to discover in this amazing cosmopolitan city, not to mention amazing food. You are sure to have a great trip whatever time of year you choose to visit, but December is definitely a magical time of year in Berlin.  The whole city is illuminated, and all of the typical tourist attractions take on a new festive glow.   I can't say I've ever been to a place that takes Christmas so seriously! The Germans sure know how to decorate a city, the whole of Berlin is seemingly sparkling and festive.   The streets, malls and shops are adorned with beautiful lights, decorations and toys and the effect is just dazzling!      One of the best examples of this is the shopping area of Kurfürstendamm, or Kudamm to locals, which is beautifully decorated year after year and is a hotspot for tourists wanting to perfect their Christmas selfie.  All of the streets around this area contain festive focal points, like the iconic Berlin letters, the snowman and of course Santa Clause.   Another must see is the popular shopping area at Potsdamer Platz. This area has several malls, all decorated to amazing effect and with lots of attention to detail.   It also boasts a must-see of any festive trip to Germany - a traditional Christmas market!   No Winter trip to Berlin is complete without having a look around one of these beautiful markets, and luckily there are several in the centre of town.   There you can browse all number of hand made crafts, decorations and toys.  And of course sample some of the traditional Christmas foods!   My favourite part of the market experience is partaking in a little Glühwein!  Glühwein is essentially the same as the English mulled wine, a warm alcoholic beverage usually made with red wine along with various mulling spices such as cloves, cinnamon and citrus.  It is a brilliant way to warm yourself on a crisp winter day and get you in the festive spirit!  It is sold everywhere in Berlin so you won't have to look far, and lots of places work on a glass deposit basis so you can keep the cup as a souvenir if you like 😊 The Christmas market at Gendarenmarkt is particularly pretty, nestled on the square beneath the Konzerthaus (concert hall) and definitely worth a visit.  But to be honest, everywhere you go there will be festive photo opportunities! From the Sony Centre at Potsdamer Platz-   To the sparkly view of the city from atop the Berliner Dom.
