- Overall there is strength in the NZD. Weakness in the USD with minor weakness in the AUD and CAD.

- Oil prices rose on escalating tensions between the US and Saudi Arabia over the disappearance of a dissident Saudi journalist in Turkey.

- Spot gold advanced 0.8% to $1,227 an ounce boosted by climbing demand for safe-haven assets. 

- USD eased on weaker-than-expected retail sales report, with the ICE Dollar Index slipping 0.3% on day to 95.06.

- USD/JPY back above 112 in Asia trade. USD pulled back a bit during the trading session on Monday but did find a bit of support near the ¥111.50 level, as we have seen an area that has been massive resistance.

- AUD has been rather resilient during the Monday session, bouncing from the 0.71 handle

- GBP has gapped lower to kick off the week, but found buyers immediately, and has filled that gap by the time New York started trading. 

- EUR/USD stays on the upside after validating a bullish triangle continuation pattern. Above the key support at 1.1565, the pair should revisit 1.1610. Alternatively, a break below 1.1565 would open a path toward 1.1540 .

- On the data slate there’s UK Claimant Count Rate; UK Jobless Claims Rate; UK Average Weekly Earnings; UK Unemployment Rate; UK Employment Change; Euro-Zone Trade Balance; German ZEW Survey; Euro-Zone ZEW Survey; US Industrial Production; US Capacity Utilization; US Manufacturing Production; US Housing Market Index; US Job Openings and US Net Long-Term TIC Flows.
