One of the most fastest-growing disease worldwide and a scourge of our century is dementia.  It is calculated  that oven 50 million people are insulted by disease, with one person every 3 seconds be affected by dementia. And the shocking statistics numbers are not stop here. This number expected to get over 131.5 million by 2050!

<p>Alzheimer’s disease, the most common form of dementia, accounts for 60-80 percent of all cases, is a disease that cause problems with memory, language, emotions, learning, motivation, generally change all the way of living before. There are not treatments-cure so far and so the people who suffering from the Alzheimer’s disease, ultimately leading to death.

Researchers of  Konkuk University in South Korea, particularly Beong-Ou Lim and his colleagues discovered a potential therapy for cognitive decline and report in ACS’ Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry that blueberry vinegar might offer help and stave off memory loss!

  The people who affected by Alzheimer’s disease, according with recent studies, shows that their brains have low levels of acetylcholine ( an organic chemical that functions in the brain and body, as a neurotransmitter- a chemical released by nerve cells to send signal to other cells: source, wikipedia) and its receptors. There are some drugs for this breakdown of acetylcholine, but can be toxic and don’t last very long.
So an alternative and much safer treatment, is a treatment based in natural extracts. Furthermore, research has shown that fermentation can increase the bioactivity of some natural compounds.


<p>  The scientists , Beong- Ou Lim and his colleagues, desided to investigate if the vinegar made from blueberries could be a hopeful  ‘weapon’  to the fight against the disease and be effective to prevention of dementia.

 <p> The team of Beong Ou Lim made an experiment in mice. Induced amnesia in mice, by giving them a drug called scopolamine and started to give them 120 milligrams per kilogram of blueberry vinegar or 120 milligrams per kilogram of blueberry extract every day for a week. The scientists also analyzed the animal performance and tested their memory with Y-maze tests and avoidance tests.

<p>The results of the experiment were encouraging! Measurements in the brains of mice showed a reduction in the breakdown of acetylcholine, an increase of brain-derived neurotrophic factor – a protein that associated with growth , maintenance of nerve cells and creating healthy neurons – and also blueberry vinegar can be improved short term memory!

  Although there are not confirm that blueberry vinegar can cure people with dementia and needed many more testing, the researchers asserted that blueberry vinegar is a promising food, that could help people with dementia related to aging.
