Flags of the World #2 : Albania!

Hello followers and fellow Steemians who managed to run into my post! (or how I would like to call you from now on, new follower? maybe?) 

This is my second post on a series to talk about the flags of the countries around the world. Knowing about a country's flag gives you a small glimpse into the culture behind the flag, since the meanings and imagery found on the flag often reflect the culture, lifestyle and beliefs of the people behind it! Well without further ado, lets begin with today's flag. To avoid country favoritism, the flags are done in alphabetical order.

The flag of Albania is a red flag with the silhouette of a black double-headed eagle in the center.

Albania has gone trough many different iterations of a similar flag and this is not the first time this particular one was adopted in November of 1443, in November of 1912 and lastly on April 1992!

## Meanings

The red color represents the bravery, strength and valor of all Albanians.

The double headed eagle represents the sovereign state of Albania. The eagle is taken from an Albanian folk tale. The eagle faithfully watches over and guides the "son of the eagle" also known as the king of Albania.

The eagle is sacred for Albanians as they see themselves as descendants of the eagle and refer to themselves as "Shqiptare" which translates as "sons of the eagle"

Personally i really like this flag, its simple yet it has a deep meaning that is entrenched in the history and the folklore of the Albanian people, and i really like all the European flags that have eagles on them or used to have eagles on them, sadly not many countries preserve the eagles of their flags since it was used more as a monarchic flag and when the republics came, the first thing to go was the eagle :-(

Usually when countries turned into communism in the 20th century, one of the firsts things to go was the old flag, which usually represented a monarchy or a republic, but even though  Albanians adopted communism their respect and belief of the eagle remained and they kept the eagle on their flag!

Wowww, I didn't know Albania had such a long history! I knew they were called 'shqiptare' but I never knew why.

It's so cool to know about their history and the different flags they've had. So sad to see that they went through a stage of communism, though this is not uncommon in Eastern Europe. Thanks for another great post!

I might eventually get into covering countries more thoroughly if i see an interest in it for sure! So far i'm barely doing my first steps into writing and flags are a small topic i feel quite comfortable with :-D. I'm working my head around starting a series about simplifying cryptocurrencies technology to people that are not in the tech world so look out for that too.
