As a simple person, I grew up with the simplest of lifestyles. My family was happy, we don’t spend much for gadgets, new clothing, or new materials. If it is still working, it still is. But we weren’t cheap either, I guess hahaha! I mean, we do family outings too, we eat in fast food restaurants & pamper ourselves every once in a while. 


But one thing I couldn’t forget from my family? Is how sharing we were. We always give gifts to one another, during occasions, reunions and special events. 

But there is this one item that I could never forget, this watch here. 


It may look simple, but this watch actually came with lots of stories. 


It was during my teenage years, and I can’t help myself to just sleep late nights, around 2 AM - 4 AM. Then I find myself waking up noon. At first, I thought my family wouldn’t mind me sleeping that late, but there came my brother to the rescue! It was a day before my birthday. 

It was an awkward moment, when he stepped into my room and just tossed something into my bed. I asked him, what is this? 

He replies, “it’s a watch.”

Then i replied back, “what for? I still have good watches over here.” 

He then replied again, “think of this one as a special watch, this can only be my gift for you because it is the only one I can afford, but still it will mean alot. Because even if I am not around with you anymore, atleast you will remember, to not sleep late again! Because this watch will serve as my lookout for you, so whenever it is around night time, I am sure you will sleep early and not stress yourself out.” 


I smiled and thanked him, not showing any big reactions, he then left my room, then I felt teary eyed. I never knew my brother was that concern for me, I was deeply moved. Then I promised myself to never sleep too late again, for the better of myself. 




Years have past and I still have this watch by my side, so whenever I miss my brother, I would see to it that even if he is far from my home, still, I have a gift from him that I took care of many years back and till now.
