After we checked out of the hotel, we left Balian beach and drove to Munduk, a highland area in the Central Bali. On the way there, we were greeted by lush green rice field and jungles. We weren't expecting that the journey was challenging because we had to drive around byway to reach our destination. There were also a lot of descent  which made us stop couple of times before reaching the place. We made our first stop to Pura Luhur Batukaru, an ancient temple well-known for the Hindu pilgrimage.

We reached the place around afternoon after passing the byroad and scenic rice field. We were also noticing temples along the way with international flags such as Belgium, Spain, France, Germany and even Brazil. We have yet to really know the reason behind those foreign flags around the temple. However, as we've heard from the locals it's normally because the temple celebration.

The temple is managed by the locals and the entrance fee is 20.000idr/person. The visitor must wear a cloth wrapping their legs to respect the holy place. Also, do not forget to read the board sign containing rules while visiting any temple. On a side note, be careful while you are walking on this temple, there are a lot of mold and it's a little bit slippery.


On this temple complex, you will see a lake with a temple in the center of it. Also, if you are lucky, you can spot the locals performing their rituals.

On the way to the waterfall area, we found herd of monkey on the road side.  We stopped for a little while to take pictures and feed the monkey with banana we bought from the locals who sold it on site. We got told that the monkey here is friendlier than the one in the monkey forest.  And so, we decided to skip the monkey forest because we've played enough with the monkey.

Then, we passed through two beautiful lakes. We stopped in one of them and it was called Danau beratan. If you take a motor bike, it's easier if you just stop in a place called " parkir motor "- a parking lot for car and motorbike. With this way, it is cheaper than to pay an entrance fee seeing the lake from the temple.

Around this area, there wasn't much option available with a friendly budget. Again, we managed to find a homestay with a very friendly host. It was as if we were hosted in a great family.  I manged to learn a little about the local situation and I couldn't be thankful enough to be hosted so nicely with this balinese family.  Not to mention, their house has amazing balcony where you get to view the sunset. For further detail about this place, stay tuned for the hotel review post.  I think if you want to spend more and on a lavish budget, you could always find something.
