The staple of communities
from a time long ago
where friendships are made
and societies come to grow

The Heart of England
and all it bestows
not just some bar
where people come to pose

They've proved their worth
from the first settlements
even hanging a traitor
in dire sentiment

The space that they offer
to be enjoyed by one-n-all
they are more than just
a typical beer hall

The start of relationships
where class usually divides
a meeting of minds
it so effortlessly provides

A place for the lads
to unwind after work
blow off some steam
with a wink and a smirk

Good times to be had
while the booze would flow
husbands and wives
all those in the know

The lose of sacred space
can weaken the whole
the fracturing of communities
way down in it's soul

The importance of the pub
has frayed over time
while depression and loneliness
continue to climb

Much more than a bar
or a trendy nightclub
we come to belong
*down at the pub…*
