*(Don't Fear) The Reaper* (No Temas al Segador), es un tema de la agrupación neoyorquina **Blue Oyster Cult** incluido en su cuarto álbum de estudio titulado *Agents of Fortune*, editado en 1976. Compuesta por el guitarrista de la banda **Donald «Buck Dharma» Roeser**, mientras imaginaba su posible muerte, por lo que la letra hace referencia al amor eterno y lo inevitable de la muerte.

La canción fue publicada inicialmente como sencillo y se convertiría en el mayor éxito comercial de la agrupación tras alcanzar la posición número 12 en la lista *Billboard Hot 100* de los Estados Unidos, la séptima en las listas canadienses y la número 16 del *UK Singles Chart* británico a finales de 1976. Recibió críticas muy favorables, y en el año 2004 fue seleccionada por la reconocida revista musical, *Rolling Stone* como una de las 500 mejores canciones de todos los tiempos.

La letra habla sobre lo inevitable de la muerte y lo ridículo de tenerle miedo. El verso "Romeo and Juliet are together in eternity" (Romeo y Julieta están juntos en la eternidad) llevaría a muchos oyentes a interpretar la canción como un pacto suicida, sin embargo, su autor afirmaría que la letra de la canción habla sobre el amor eterno y no sobre el suicidio, por lo que la referencia a la inmortal pareja creada por el dramaturgo inglés **William Shakespeare**, era para describir a una pareja de amantes que creían que volverían a reencontrarse en el más allá.</div>

**Blue Oyster Cult** es una banda estadounidense de *rock psicodélico* y *heavy metal*, formada en Nueva York en 1967, y que alcanzaría el reconocimiento a nivel mundial a finales de la década de los 70 y principios de los 80 con letras que se caracterizarían por un corte misterioso, erudito y surrealista.

El nombre de la agrupación proviene de un poema escrito en la década de los 60 por su manager **Sandy Pearlman**. Formaba parte de su poesía "Imaginos".</div>

A **Pearlman** también se le ocurrió el nombre anterior de la banda, **Soft White Underbelly** (Suave Vientre Blanco), a partir de una frase utilizada por el Primer Ministro británico **Winston Churchill** para describir a Italia durante la Segunda Guerra Mundial. En la poesía, **Blue Oyster Cult** (Culto de la Ostra Azul), era un grupo de extraterrestres que se habían reunido para guiar en secreto la historia de la Tierra. En un principio, los integrantes de la banda no estaban de acuerdo con el nombre, sin embargo se conformaron con él y se prepararon para grabar su primer álbum.

Hasta la fecha han vendido más de 24 millones de álbumes alrededor del mundo, incluidos 7 millones tan sólo en los Estados Unidos. Sus videos musicales, especialmente el tema *Burnin 'for You*, tuvieron amplia difusión en **MTV** cuando la cadena de televisión se estrenó en el año 1981, consolidando la contribución de la banda al desarrollo y al éxito del video musical en la cultura popular moderna.
