For centuries, people have poor reputation as a force of smell. Although we can see more colors than the average mammal, our noses are simply not on a par with noses of dogs and rabbits, for example.

Yes, certainly aromas of coffee and the morning pies are wonderful. But intelligent people have outgrown the need to make their way in life with a sense of smell. Or so argues the prevailing theory.

But Professor. John McGann of Ratgars believes that this is a mistaken idea that dates back to the 19th century.

According to him, it is high time to put an end to this myth. People have almost the same number of neurons in the brain responsible for the sense of smell as mice and moles.

Dogs may be better than us in the smell of body odor but people op better at capturing the richness of smells such as wine, perfume and cognac.
