Ranting about this crazy world through Steem

I've been thinking a while on what would be a good contribution to this community.
It's tempting to try to figure out which topics generate the most revenue and just go with that, however, I feel there's more to gain from this platform than just figuring out the next "get rich quick" scheme. Therefore I'm choosing to use this platform to share my thoughts on certain aspects of life that interest me personally, and hopefully will interest from you too.

The thing that baffles me to this day, is how it's possible that a large chunk of humanity in the 21st century is still entrapped outdated ways of thinking. I'm referring of course to religion.
When I mention this to people around me I often hear the following reason:

*"Religion gives many people comfort, there's nothing wrong with that."*

But this raises the question, does something that gives you a warm and fuzzy feeling really have any barring on truth?
If warm and fuzzy feelings are the criteria you have for deciding whether something is true or not, should one really consider you a rational being that has a good grip on life?
If I would tell myself that I'm the CEO of Microsoft, married to Angelina Jolie, and I would then tell you that I believe it because it's comforting... you would probably doubt my sanity, with good reason!
But for some reason when people tell me that they believe that by saying a few Latin words to a cracker in church it will turn into the body of a man that lived over 2000 years ago, I should just respect them for being Catholic.

These are ways of thinking that would have been excusable for our ancestors, that didn't know anything of the world around us. People that couldn't explain how thunderstorms emerged, or how tsunami's could happen. These are not ways of thinking of the 21st century, and with such a huge amount of the world's population still caught up in these thoughts, it's quite frankly holding humanity back.

Well, that was my rambling for today, short but it's a start!

What do you think about religion?
Do you feel I'm completely off?
Do you have a different opinion?
Please let me know in the comments :)

Cheers
