Planning My Garden For Next Spring: Chickens, Blueberries, and More
I've been taking walks around our property recently and have been dreaming of my future garden. I've been inspired by @aunt-deb 's [ragtag garden series](https://steemit.com/gardening/@aunt-deb/revved-up-ragtag-part-1) and have learned a lot from following her gardening projects this year. In her last post she shared her up and coming projects which inspired me to share mine.

# This deck needs some work
![IMG_8414.JPG](https://steemitimages.com/DQmNY6yGk6X8aTV4G7D3A7Fzpc9S8QckRG3Pa7QzeMVCJ5u/IMG_8414.JPG)

Our house was vacant 8 years before we bought it. Our deck is nice and sturdy but it badly needs some TLC. Next summer we plan on power washing the house and deck and painting the deck if it doesn't need to be sanded down first. It's a very big deck and I'd love to have a container garden on it next summer. You can see the dying off tomato plant from this years garden. We had some bad wind storms and lots of cold and my poor tomatoes slowly broke down. I picked the last of the tomatoes for the year and they are done.

I've already got container blueberries. Next spring I'd like to try strawberries and blackberries. I might plant some green beans, tomatoes, and yellow squash. I'm not sure what else at the moment but onions, carrots, and a fig tree are ideas I want to try in containers.

# Where Can I Put A Chicken Coop?
![IMG_8413.JPG](https://steemitimages.com/DQmUkUQFJ5rd8NBT9NnU5wtUiZ7WikhRhFPJp46tcMh3re1/IMG_8413.JPG)

My husband and I want chickens badly. My husband has done a lot of research on coops and really wants at least two chickens. Our dream is to build a coop and get some next year. You can't tell it but on top of this wall is a flat dirt patch that has just enough space for a small chicken coop. We'd have to cut down a few small trees and a ton of weeds but it's one of the few spots we could fit one.

# Hello Morning Glory
![IMG_8506.JPG](https://steemitimages.com/DQmYxHTfGngd9xAU7WFERen1NwMkovowCdKKtD3QWe2ky52/IMG_8506.JPG)
When my poor Marx the rabbit passed away I planted morning glory seeds on his grave so the vines could grow all over and cover the mountain in flowers. In the center of the above pic are the morning glory vines. I had thousands of seeds and saved some. I plan on planting the rest around the front of the house so they can cover the base with flowers.

# The Back Yard: The Worst Place
![IMG_8588.JPG](https://steemitimages.com/DQmXAkktKozfon1sfMLr8rLKJS46vd3vEDDMY3AnCRakr9S/IMG_8588.JPG)

That pic ended up blurry but you can see that the back yard has no grass. It is pure weeds. It's so hard to manage and gets overgrown very easily. I really don't know what to do to kill all the weeds off to get just grass. Nature took over during that 8 years of being vacant and battling back the forest is a losing battle so far. This might be a job that will take a few years to finish.

# Blueberries!!!
![IMG_8420.JPG](https://steemitimages.com/DQmNXbWtuLovMMdpqATtbexvgz2cijbPuFDG7sX1YjBvPBX/IMG_8420.JPG)

I'm planning a few things with the blueberries. I'm going to try to take a clipping to see if I can get it to root and grow another plant. I also saved the worse off berries and have them in the freezer. Closer to spring I'll thaw them out and get the seeds and see if I can get a few plants from those. I've never grown a blueberry bush from a seed but it would be awesome if I could. The bush in the picture is young and didn't produce this year. I hope this next summer it'll produce for the first time.

# My Rose Bush Will Get A New Home
![IMG_8415.JPG](https://steemitimages.com/DQmcaFfXS8gsF7q5JAjfYE5Fzfq6RL4PcH23NHsBimTmMXQ/IMG_8415.JPG)

My rose bush did great this year. Next year I'll transplant it into the ground so hopefully someday it'll be huge.

When the weather is cold I'll work on clearing some of the weeded areas of the yard. We do have some existing beds for planting but they are so covered in weeds that we can't do anything with them. It'll be a lot of work so I don't know how much of my garden plans will happen but it's nice to dream. Some projects take years to finish and I'm sure our dream of a big garden will take a long time.

On another note my rep score is 59.98!! It's been climbing so slowly that I hope this post puts me over the top to reach that goal of 60!

We used to have a blueberry bush close to the house when I was a kid. The challenge was beating the birds to the fruit!! Great post :)

Looks like we're going to be swapping notes on weed eradication and war stories about what aches more that day! (Weed killing post coming soon. You'll love it. It avoids digging...)

That deck is going to be spectacular when you get done with it! Looks like a good size area, so you'll have lots of options. Ah, well, planning during winter makes dreary days more tolerable. Oh, and for the record, I'm still envious of that blueberry bush and that gorgeous rose!

Dang, you DO have some serious forest to deal with! Okay - totally off the wall, bizarre idea from a non-chicken owning crazy lady, but is it possible to build a coop tree house, with a little ladder for night time? Maybe they could hang out underneath to hunt & scratch? Just brainstorming...

@marxrab, if you were within reach, I'd hug the stuffin' out of you for your sweet thoughts. You actually made me blush!
