Facebook proudly announced that they achieved 8 billion video views a day. That's impressive, until you learn that in 2015. 725 of the thousand most viewed videos on Facebook are stolen. Amassing a total of 17 billion views. Content Aggregators steal videos from YouTube to go viral on Facebook. These videos went viral because Facebook is cheating. They rig their algorithm in order that video uploaded to their player are preferred to YouTube links. Because viewers should be kept as long as possible on the site so Facebook can show them as many ads as possible. This is a part of Facebook business model. But it also cheats when it comes to views. A view is counted after 3 seconds, even that the video is muted, That because of auto play. If you scroll through your timeline you count as a viewer. That means video engagement is terrible.

source

Compared to YouTube views, Facebook views plummet after some seconds because most views aren't real. However massive numbers of views are incredible so Facebook keeps pretending. While this forced virality is weird but the actual problem is the so-called "Free booting",the stealing of videos. Since Facebook prefers its own views, stolen videos reach more people than the original one. This is terrible for content creators. Contrary to belief, Stolen content gives creators to no exposure at all, Only the thief and Facebook profit from this. Quality content takes plenty of creativity, time and love. For a small creator a viral video can imply the difference between a profession and a hobby. On YouTube this type of theft is not a Problem because they have major safeguards that protect content material from being stolen, even though the content identity system is far from perfect for original content creators. Facebook pretend everything is fine and continuously announces one milestone after the other. But it not fine.

source

let's examine the process of claiming your copyright con Facebook.

1. Get an e mail or tweet from a fan that gives you an direct link to your video. it is not not possible to search for videos on Facebook yourself, you rely on luck to find your stolen videos.

2. Search "Facebook copyright infringement" on google, It's actually faster this way.

3. Fill out an annoyingly long contact form.

4. Watch the views on your stolen content rise.

5. Facebook finally pulls the video, But the video has already won 99% of all the views it will ever get.

The thief does not have to fear any negative results at all. That is what a successful creators have to deal continuously, and on top of losing out in term of exposure and money, it just seems like a violation to be handled like that. In a current announcement Facebook announced they want to change. But it is difficult to take them seriously when it still takes days for a stolen viral video to be taken down and Facebook does not share the earnings made from it. At this Point Facebook is not a associate creators look forward to working with. They have built their video empire on stolen content and disregard for original content creators. That is really unacceptable for a company worth billions of dollars.

source

Facebook is already trying out various monetization models so that it will provide the uploaders a part of the advert revenue, which with the present day of play is troubling. Right now this is testing with big media agencies, But as creators we do not feel like we're being taken into consideration by the giant that is Facebook.

what we can do to help as a viewer?

If you spot stolen content on Facebook make a comment linking to the original content.

Alert the original creator because only they can file a copyright report.
