I'm enjoying the show. As one who couldn't vote for either of the miscreants on the docket, it's pretty much what I expected. Either we get someone who shakes things up because he's unconventional or we get more of the same old neo-fascist garbage we've become so accustomed to, though admittedly probably on a whole new level.
This is the first time I can remember when I don't really know what to expect. The whole liberal camp has undressed themselves as the self-destructive hypocrites that they are. The conservative side is confused, though many are standing by the POTUS.
There was a time when I was as patriotic as they come. My family has spilled blood in every war the US has ever been in, right up to Vietnam. But as I watched the first Clinton presidency unfold, and dug more deeply into politics and history, the illusion I had bought into started crumbling.
A study of history will reveal that the republic died over 150 years ago, becoming a democracy. Folks act like democracy is a good thing, failing to realize that it's just as destructive as socialism, unless it has a balancing mechanism such as a true republic can provide. Even then, it's likely to be short-lived.
The oligarchy was officially launched in the early 1900s. By the time of the Depression, it was fully entrenched and the US was no longer even really a democracy. It was more of a corporatocracy, with tendrils of democracy woven throughout to keep up appearances.
It soon became apparent that it's all a sham. Bush's warmongering followed by Obama's destruction from within methods just kept adding to what I had learned.
I still think someone can be a patriot and maintain a sense of truth. But their loyalty must be to the people and not the state. If they support the state, then they support a lie and their patriotism is nothing more than delusionary religion.
I know that's not what you wanted to hear from a post like this. Fifteen years ago I didn't either. But as the state continues to enslave the citizenry and send our children to die for corporate profit, my old patriotism is no longer palatable.
