# Opposing Ideas Are Evil

The New York Times published an opinion piece on their front page this past Sunday, with the headline "Making Of A Youtube Radical".
The story is basically about a guy who started watching YouTube and was radicalized by the far-right because most of it is just conspiracy theories, misogyny and racism, and was brainwashed because of it. Let's break this apart a little so we can get to the core or principal of exactly what's going on here. The bulk of the article is most an accusation that YouTube's algorithm is to blame for the for this poor guy getting exposed to wrong think, because YouTube recommends other videos based on videos you watch or like, they are brainwashing you. The fact that you watch or like a specific video seems to have nothing to do with it, if you watched videos on knitting and YT recommends other knitting videos, that's bad because you will then watch more knitting videos and be brainwashed. The aspect of free will does not seem to factor into this equation in any way, shape or form, when a video is recommended you click and watch it like a mindless drone. There is no personal responsibility take for what this guy in the story chose to watch, he is a victim, just like a drug dealer and YT is basically putting a loaded needle in front of a heroin junkie. 

The other part of this story that is a complete lie, is the false claim that these are all far-right or radical views, or that these views are even in any way radical, misogynistic or racist. This is a blanket term to label anyone who does bow down to the progressive way of thinking, these include things like advocating for free speech and civil liberties, or siding with science that there are biologically only two genders, there many other examples.

The narrative here is that anyone who does not identify as being on the progressive left and holds this prescribed thinking, must then be radical, far-right extremists. The language is a dead give away of the lunacy of this bias, no one is referred to as just being on the right, it's either far-right, or alt-right or white supremacists. You either think exactly like they do which is the good kind of thinking or you think wrong and this makes you an evil person. The problem with purposely misleading the reader, is that it removes all credibility of anything else that has been written. Then again this entire article was not intended to be objective at all, I think that is an attempt to demonize these creator who at the end of the day have massive viewership and does take away a lot of potential revenue for these msm companies. They can't win over the audience with competing ideas or content, so the only way is to appeal to YouTube to have them removed. Unfortunately this is a very short sighted move, because they will just find a better platform to share their ideas on and all they people will follow. This seems like the only viable option right now, a decentralized platform like where we are.
