Today, on our way to a 10 day silent meditation retreat, we talk about some of our reflections going in!

This marks our last post (likely) til we go offline for the next 11 days! We see this as a gift to ourselves and have been looking forward to it, though there is usually some anxiety related to committing to such a thing. 

> It’s been over 5 years for each of us since we’ve done a Vipassana course and we’re really thankful for the space and teachings this organization holds for everyday people to meditate, learn about and experience our innermost being, and have some beautiful space of silence.

I WOULD LOVE TO TRY THIS!!  Shit yeah!  Sign me up.  

My entire life I have contemplated "Selective Mutism" as a way to calm myself from everyday anxiety.  I wanted to be mute as a child and I guess the concept had always stayed with me.

I am actually quite shy and would prefer to be a fly on the wall instead of directly engaging(despite my bombastic personality at times).  I think my persona of energy is just a mask for the anxiety inside that I have for people.

Have a rich silence! I did a Vipassana silent retreat years ago and came out refreshed and still find little bits of this in my daily meditations. Silence is profound and offers to many gifts for months to come!

Good luck on your unique adventure. I almost never speak in a normal course of events. I'm alone in SE Asia and don't get out much. When I do talk, I have to clear my throat. If I don't need to shop and say thank you to store clerks, I can go without words for days on end.

But I am online and writing blog posts and books all the time, as that is how I communicate. I should probably cut the cord, but probably won't. 

I hope you have a wonderful experience, and I think you will. Your internal self should appear to you, and what a gift that will be.

I've never been on a silent retreat. The closest thing I could compare it to was fasting for a week, which I've done several times, with amazing results. Maybe I shouldn't even compare the two, but in the end I always felt calm, peaceful, grateful, and deeply happy. Riding my bike for weeks and months, I never felt like I needed anything like this, however, since I'm back in Mexico City (for a mere three days!) I'm starting to think how nice it would be. :-) Enjoy your meditation, and I look forward to reading more about it when you return!
