 Welcome to my daily post about what we have in the Philippines. "ULING" or charcoal is one of the basic materials in the Philippines. Charcoal is used for those who sells barbecue in the street. There were also others used charcoal instead of gas stove in cooking food. There are mini-food stores or "karenderia" who used charcoal in cooking foods. You can save money because charcoal is low price and also it's hotter for long term of cooking. The disadvantage of this is hard to start a fire. The photo above is a product that sells in the store, they measured it and the price of this is just 10 pesos. "Uling" was made of coconut shell but the other one was made of a wood but the "uling" that eas made in coconut shell is hotter however the "uling" that was made of wood can last longer. In making of "uling" they make a hole under the soil, it's for you to decide how big is the hole. After putting the coconut shell in the hole they will covered it with a leaves of banana. They will analyze if the coconut shell are already on fire and good to kill the fire. While others kill the fire by putting a water on it. So if you see someone doing barbecue and grilled, it's obvious what they are using, it's "ULING." Thank you for reading.
