My Passion IS Dance: #1 My Story

<p>As mentioned in previous posts, I have been a passionate dancer for as long as I can remember and am extremely impressed when people know how to control every move of their body. The expression of your inner feelings and soul is beautiful thing and I want to dedicate this post to all dancers around the world. There are so many talented people out there and I want to share with you what inspires me as a dancer and a human being. Dance is a talent but also a skill that one can develop, learn and grow, which I truly love. It has always been and still is a journey. I don't consider myself a top dancer, I am and always will be a student of this art, but I'm also proud of how far I've come.&nbsp;</p>

<h2>Before I get into other dancers who inspire me I want to share with you my story of becoming a dancer:</h2>
<p>When I was 4-6 years old my mom took me to a ballet class, but I always was "too energetic", jumping around and naturally doing moves that for ballet were called inappropriate. So I knew I wasn't going to continue dancing ballet, but I loved to dance so I needed to try a new style that would fit me better. Before I got into Hip Hop L.A Style I was already used to moving to beats, since my mother has always been a salsa dancer and dancing to music in our household was pretty normal. I also loved to memorize and even in school always had A+'s on vocabulary tests, whereas on math test... well let's not talk about that...</p>
<p>Anyway, so I was used to music and rhythm but not particularly the <strong>ART OF DANCE </strong>which includes precision, control, strength, acting, letting go and many more attributes.</p>

<p>The first real <strong>Hip Hop Class </strong>I took and choreography I remember was taught by my (still today) dance coach @sirwinchester . At first I didn't feel too comfortable expressing myself and felt intimidated by all the amazing dancers in that class. They were all experienced and part of a dance crew named "Winchester Pictures".&nbsp;</p>
<p>The classes were on Wednesday, Friday and Sunday, however if you were part of the crew you also had training all day on Saturday and all day before class on Sunday, so much more intense.</p>
<p>After about half a year into the Junior Hip Hop Class, @sirwinchester asked me and 3 other girls including @agent and @soldier to join the Saturday practice of the Master Class / Winchester Pictures.</p>
<p>I was excited like crazy, but also didn't know what to expect. I remember him saying: "Don't forget to bring a towel and lots of water." I didn't know what the towel was for, but I did it.&nbsp;</p>
<p>That Saturday practice was one of toughest training sessions of my life, the towel was well needed because the sweat was real and I remember skipping school on Monday because I was so sore!&nbsp;</p>
<p>Now I think a lot of others would have quit at that point already, because of the intensity and pressure. On only one day I overcame the fear of freestyle and learned more than others do in a year. It was a true challenge, but I love challenges so I showed up to every other practice and practiced at home as well, because I knew if I wanted to become as good as the other dancers were, I needed to train harder. After several weekend practices and an audition, I got asked to join the crew. They included me like a new family member and I was so happy to be a part of them. Every practice was fun and challenging at the same time, the people became my family, we trained hard together, but also accomplished great things together, which is an amazing feeling. Auditions for show were hard, because there were always limited spots and everyone knew when there were only 4 spots that the battle would be among the best..</p>

<p>As time went by and I continued to train harder and harder, I passed other dancers and slowly but steadily increased my chance to become one of the best in class. Some dreams came true, like dancing front row in a show..it was my determination, strong willpower, love for learning and passion that grew me as a dancer and person. There were times where I wanted to give up, I didn't feel good enough, I had to learn a choreography in two day, to not let my dance family down and I felt pressured, but at the end of the day it was all worth it, because I love to dance, I love to train to become the best version of myself, I love to take on challenges and love the feeling of accomplishment.&nbsp;The crew doesn't exist any longer, times have changed, but my passion for dance is the same.</p>
<p>What is your passion; talent; skill; accomplishment?</p>
<p>So that was as short as it could possibly get, writing a summary on my dance life. Now I included some footage, even though I'm a perfectionist and always feel like that wasn't my best, but that's why I'm doing it.</p>

Watching people who can dance so beautifully, "people know how to control every move of their body" is like watching people fly! I'm more like those memes about "how you think you look" (disaster!). Can you describe HOW you get your body to move the way you picture it moving? lol - is there hope for the rather uncoordinated?

First of all, thank you and second.. Yes I believe that dance does not have to be a talent, as I'm not a talent (my coach would agree) at dance and just had rhythm in the beginning, but through dedication you can definitely learn how to dance and control parts of your body, no worries there is plenty of hope. I don't think I can describe in a sentence how dance works, but if you start with basic dance tutorials and continue from there on you will sooner or later communicate to your body the way it should move :)

Frankly I don't think the classical type in the first  video is fit to your body type. You look awkward and lacks grace. The hip-hop style in the second video is much more fit to you.

I was mesmerized by this small lady in the Zumba yesterday at my gym. She really blew my mind. I wish I had captured some video to share. She was a fireball and her moves were so striking, powerful, fluid yet radical. I just stared at her for 60 seconds and I couldn't take my eyes off what she was doing. I admire athleticism apparently.

I have never practiced dancing in my entire life. Yet [I just mess around](https://steemit.com/travel/@anonymint/welcome-to-the-philippines) if ever I hear music I like and in a venue where I can strut. For me, it is more about being funny and having fun. My propensity for dance derives from growing up in New Orleans with the Mardi Gras, high school marching bands, and even there was this photo of myself as a child with a musical rattle in my hand and dancing crazy.
