**Cryptocurrency: strong market decline, Ripple and Ethereum at the trouble**

Uncertainty is still on the evolution of cryptocurrency, especially when times are disturbed in the stock market. The virtual currency market has lost more than $ 6.7 billion in 24 hours.

bitcoinsThe decline was mainly marked by the currencies #Ripple (XRP) and #Ethereum, while Bitcoin, the main cryptocurrency often causing large variations, remained rather stable around $ 6300, notes CNBC.

The exact causes of this major cold snap are not known but the turmoil from Asia on the side of global stock markets, including negative impacts on technology stocks, may have played a role.

There are also concerns about the role of cryptocurrency in the global economy and the financial system as the authorities remain suspicious of its role as a vehicle for speculative bubbles and fraud.

The first steps towards a better acceptance of new currencies in financial institutions have been disappointed recently with the refusal of the SEC (Securities & Exchange Commission), the US stock exchange watchdog, to endorse the creation of ETFs (Exchange- Traded Funds).

However, understanding the phenomenon of cryptocurrencies remains a delicate exercise and we find in each camp voices warning of their dangers or on the contrary ensuring a return to the peaks of late 2018.
