thinking about how amazing it is that my dog exists so peacefully in a universe where she has no idea of what she'll be doing in the next 10 minutes and little control over what that is. She goes along with my plans. I'd be a basket case.

Yes but our pets are primed and ready like ninjas the second they need to be! It's not just about sloth for them. They seem to be masters of being present - peaceful and completely alive and ready. I've meditated for years and have almost nothing on them!
